Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Counseling is a brave space for clients to explore their experience, rewrite their narratives, and build stronger relationships. I also believe in a holistic approach to therapy to ensure all aspects of a person’s life are considered. Through my own mental health journey, I have learned the significance of collaborating with mind, body, and spirit. As a Black woman, I understand the need to provide mental health services to Black and minority communities, and to help eliminate negative stigmas about mental health for people of color. I am a sex-positive individual, who encourages identities outside of heteronormativity. I aim to help clients embark on their own wellness journeys and to cultivate a quality of life that reflects their personal values, cultures, and beliefs. I will use elements of DBT, Somatic, AEDP, Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing modalities to individualize treatment for each client’s specific needs and goals. I strive for a therapeutic relationship that can be the foundation for continual healing and growth, where learning takes the forefront and challenging discussions are encouraged. I am passionate and open to hearing my client's individual stories with fresh eyes, allowing them to connect and share their authentic selves in a non-judgmental environment.

I have over 12yrs experience providing support and relief for people suffering from or trying to manage anxiety/depression as well as major transitions in life. I offer support, insight and tools to manage and overcome. I try to weave in both a clear understanding with the client as to the root cause of the concern or difficulty with at least 5 different tools they can use to help manage the day to day. Working at both these levels I have been able to see great success and change in my clients. I am an engaging and warm individual that ensures from the beginning my clients feel comfortable and supported. I have been trained and utilize many evidenced based treatments providing me multiple skills and options in treatments for my clients.
CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS Hi, I am Marissa Robinson! Therapy at Be You is humanistic & collaborative. This practice celebrates individuality. Our approach to therapy is humanistic, interpersonal, trauma-informed, and evidence-based, with an emphasis on the importance of a safe and open therapeutic relationship. We specialize with working with young adults who are going through life/ career transitions, relationship stress, anxiety, sexuality/ intimacy issues, self-esteem issues, depression, as well as wellness & self-care. We support our clients in identifying and attaining their full potential. In our work, we help my clients identify the issue, process what is going on, build on resources to slow down their mind & body, and transform relationships and routines to improve your daily life and how you feel within it. We aim for you to leave sessions feeling empowered, connected, and confident.
Therapy is not about “fixing” you, it’s about understanding you. You are not broken-you are human. Being human means experiencing various complex feelings that can be difficult to navigate and understand, especially on your own. No matter what life throws you, you do not have to go through it alone. As a therapist, I aim to create a space where you feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely heard in a judgement free environment. Together, we can collaborate to help you reach a place of self-improvement and understanding through recognizing behavior patterns, processing complex emotions, and exploring solutions to any challenges you may be facing. When working with me, you can expect a relationship rooted in trust, empathy, and openness. Whether you need a space to process, vent, reflect, or simply breathe-I will meet you where you are at. I will show up for you authentically, even if it means gently challenging you and confronting obstacles head on. There is no rush when it comes to your progress. Think of me in the passenger seat and you are the driver-you are the expert of your life and your voice matters most. Nearly ten years ago, I began my personal journey with therapy during a time of major life transitions. What stayed with me was the feeling of unconditional support and understanding I received. For the first time, I felt truly seen and encouraged to be vulnerable. This experience sparked a sense of strength and empowerment in me that I strive to help my clients discover within themselves.
Psychotherapy is your time to grow and heal. When we struggle with different aspects of our lives it can help to talk and be listened to. I have great respect for my clients and want to help you try to achieve a more satisfying and fulfilling life. Take this time to truly get to know yourself. I am a queer feminist therapist who is body positive, sex-positive, anti-diet and HAES aligned, and I am committed to anti-racist work. My office is a safe and inclusive place for all.
Are you unmotivated by everyday tasks and struggle to find where you belong in your social group? When you look in the mirror, do negative thoughts such as “I’m not enough” or “I feel hopeless” roam inside your brain? Do you find yourself freezing up in social situations, wishing you knew how to react? In a society plagued by institutional racism, gender inequalities, and generational differences, it is common to feel disheartened, anxious, and angry at ourselves and the world around us. By reaching out and prioritizing self-care, we can create a safe space to process difficult emotions and learn to manage your reactions.

My ideal client is someone navigating a significant life transition—whether it’s entering a new phase of life, adjusting to a career shift, or healing after the end of a relationship, or starting a new one. They may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or disconnected from themselves and others. They often appear high-functioning on the outside but internally struggle with self-doubt, perfectionism, or emotional exhaustion. Their needs often include learning how to manage stress, set healthy boundaries, improve emotional regulation, and strengthen relationships. I have 13 years of experience and am licensed in three states. My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, presence, and collaboration. I draw primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based practices to help clients build psychological flexibility, develop deeper self-awareness, and move toward a more values-driven life. I believe that healing begins in the context of a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. Therapy is a shared process, and I deeply respect the courage it takes to show up and be vulnerable. My role is to walk alongside you, offering guidance and insight.
