As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, my work is rooted in creating a therapeutic space where you feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, the weight of trauma, cultural or racial identity concerns, life transitions, or relationship challenges, you don't have to face it alone. With a particular passion for supporting BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, my practice is designed to be inclusive and affirming for all patients, and especially meaningful to those who haven't always felt centered in their care. Our work together is genuinely collaborative, because healing happens best when you're an active part of the process. Bridging that gap, together, is what I'm here for. From the moment we begin working together, you can expect a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and tailored to who you are. No two people carry the same experiences, backgrounds, or goals, and your care shouldn't look like anyone else's. Drawing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness, my approach is integrative, person-centered, and always collaborative. My style is kind yet purposeful: together we'll work toward recognizing your needs and building the practical tools to meet them. Guiding you toward the support and strategies that help you thrive is what drives every session we share. My path to becoming a therapist began in research. Working as a research coordinator, I found myself consistently drawn to the deeper stories behind the data, and to the real concerns people in our studies were carrying with them. It became clear that being a therapist was the right fit, the place where I could do the most meaningful work. That background in research and community mental health shapes how I practice today. It gave me a unique lens for understanding how large-scale societal and structural forces ripple down and affect individuals in very personal ways, and a commitment to integrative, community-rooted care that I bring to every session. Outside of the therapy room, you'll find me soaking up a Broadway show, getting lost in a good book, or somewhere out in the world on my next travel adventure. Water has always been a source of joy for me, whether that means snorkeling, diving, or simply swimming. Lately, I've been diving into new creative outlets as well, teaching myself embroidery and showing up to Pilates class regularly. They've become my favorite way to reset between sessions and return to the work feeling fully present for you.

I start by delving into present and past issues through a cognitive behavioral lens as well as an attachment lens to assist clients in better understanding themselves and challenging some of the automatic thoughts and behaviors that perpetuate their anxiety or distress. My style is non-judgmental and interactive, often lending itself to moments of humor and positivity that further the therapeutic bond and offer opportunities for increased self-compassion and forgiveness. My first priority when beginning treatment with a client is the development of a trusting, comfortable, and open relationship through which exploration of difficult issues can be made with increased ease and sense of safety. I am a therapist at Octave, a behavioral health practice creating a new standard for mental health care that’s both high-quality and accessible. As a clinical social worker with five years of experience, I help youth, young adults, and families confidently navigate behavioral challenges, anxiety, and dysregulation, building the communication and confidence they need to handle whatever comes next. Trust is essential to a positive therapeutic relationship, and I'm committed to building that ethically with every patient I work with. I look forward to learning more about you and taking on day-to-day discomforts together – as a team! I specialize in behavioral and cognitive interventions, primarily using a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) approach with elements of motivational interviewing and art therapy. This style is strength-based, concrete, and focused on problem-solving. Accountability, physical tools, and building healthy structure and routine are central to how I work, and I believe they are essential for growth. When working with me, you can expect a welcoming but intentional environment. I approach every patient with curiosity and a genuine intention to understand them. Collaboration drives my style: together, we'll focus on identifying what change matters most to you, and work toward the goals that move you closer to it. My path to becoming a therapist began with my own experiences in academic environments and my need for intervention due to dyslexia. After the support I received, I felt called to do the same for others, and I've brought that same desire to empower directly into my work. I enjoy pickling, playing frisbee, taking walks in the park, and spending time with friends and family.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. You may only know that something feels difficult, that a familiar way of coping is no longer working, or that you want your life or relationships to feel different. In therapy, we work together to understand the thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and experiences shaping your struggles. As a therapist, I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I'll help you build practical coping and emotional regulation skills, approach yourself with greater self-compassion, clarify your values, and respond to challenges with more flexibility and intention. The goal is to strengthen self-trust and create changes that feel meaningful, realistic, and sustainable. I believe meaningful change becomes possible when you feel understood enough to be honest and supported enough to try something new, and my role is to be that steady, compassionate, and active partner as you make sense of what you're carrying and recognize the patterns shaping your choices. We can begin where you are and work toward greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and meaningful change in everyday life. Working with me is warm, collaborative, and active. I create space for you to feel heard while also helping you look honestly at patterns that may be contributing to your distress. In our sessions, I ask thoughtful and sometimes direct questions, offer practical tools, and gently challenge avoidance, self-criticism, black-and-white thinking, or familiar responses that are no longer serving you. Together, we slow down reactions, explore what lies beneath them, and distinguish productive problem-solving from worry or rumination. My approach balances insight with action: we build emotional awareness, strengthen coping and regulation skills, clarify your needs and values, and practice more flexible ways of responding. The goal is not perfection, but greater self-trust and meaningful change. My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by more than two decades of experience across countries, careers, cultures, and life roles. Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a lawyer, filmmaker, nonprofit leader, and mother. Moving through these different identities gave me a deep appreciation for how complex and nonlinear life can be, especially when a relationship, career, identity, or familiar way of living begins to change. These experiences strengthened my commitment to compassionate, culturally responsive care grounded in the realities of each person's life. I bring curiosity, steadiness, and respect for the many parts of each patient's story to my practice now, along with an appreciation for the courage it takes to question familiar patterns and begin again. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, writing, and exploring how stories help us understand ourselves and one another. I also value time with my family, which helps me slow down, remain curious, and stay connected to what matters most.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I'm excited to be part of this thriving campus community and to support students as they navigate the challenges and opportunities of college life in NYC. I work with students experiencing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, ADD, and ADHD. Whether you're struggling with academic pressures, identity exploration, or personal relationships, you're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence-based practices. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Motivational Interviewing to help students build insight, develop coping strategies, and move toward meaningful change. My goal is to create a safe, affirming space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to thrive—both on campus and beyond.

I value curiosity and connection. I entered this field with an understanding that taking care of our minds is essential to living healthy, fulfilling lives. I believe an important element of a healthy mind is healthy supports. I place emphasis on building a collaborative relationship, where with warmth and some good humor we can figure out together what a healthy mind might look like for you. I utilize techniques from Cognitive behavioral therapy and ACT. We will work together to begin to unravel patterns in thinking and behavior and learn new skills for healthier living. Every individual is unique and therefore I value being eclectic in my style and approach. My intent is to create an authentic , compassionate, space where growth occurs. I am a therapist at Octave, a behavioral health practice creating a new standard for mental health care that’s both high-quality and accessible. I believe that physical and emotional safety and connection within a therapeutic relationship can help clients access and heal their relationships with themselves and others. For this reason, I deeply value the relationship I form with clients. I offer support with empathy and curiosity, as you move through old feelings, bring attention to your present experience, and build trust within yourself. My approach is collaborative and trauma-informed, with the goal of reducing feelings of shame and self-judgement. I will reflect and validate your experience, notice what might be happening in the moment, and encourage self-reflection. Trauma can block our ability to heal, and I have deep grounding in approaches that create a holding environment, gently and gradually building safety and trust. I can support you as you increase your capacity to heal, through sharing and corrective experience, so that you can experience more regulation and joy in the present. I work with adults and adolescents. Some of the issues I work with are anxiety, depression, and life transitions, as well as grief and loss. I’m an LGBTQ-affirming clinician and have experience working with issues particular to LGBTQ+ folks. I have extensive training and experience in developmental trauma treatment and attachment-oriented approaches. I have training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic approaches such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I’ve also been a hospice volunteer, and completed trainings in grief counseling and end-of-life doula work. Other areas I’ve trained in are cultural humility, working with shame, treatment strategies for habits and addictions, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and psychedelic therapy for end-of-life anxiety and palliative care. I graduated with a BA in English from Barnard College, an MS.Ed. in Infant and Family Development and Early Intervention/Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College, and an MS.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College. I have over 15 years’ experience as a trauma-informed, early childhood special educator and mental health consultant. It would be an honor to connect with and bear witness to your process.
Shannon Dressler, LCSW
I’ve spent 25 years working in schools as a therapist which provided me knowledge of the adolescent and young adult experience and challenges around the academic pressures. I am trained in multiple interventions from AEDP/IFS/AF-EMDR which allows me to provide support around anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and trauma.

Are you a creative person with high aspirations experiencing procrastination, perfectionism, and a hostile inner critic? Do you want to feel more free in your work or your relationships? Do you feel anxious or depressed and want to obsess less and laugh more? We will think together to figure out why you feel stuck, and how you will transform. We will collaborate to your unique strengths, using an eclectic approach. I am a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the state of New York and received my Master's Degree from New York University in drama therapy. I completed post-graduate psychotherapy training at the Institute for Developmental Transformations, where I also served as Associate Training Director for three years. I worked at the School of Visual Arts as a psychotherapist and for 9 years worked at Bellevue Hospital in the department of psychiatry. I utilize empirically supported and embodied creative approaches to psychotherapy including Attachment Focused EMDR (completed levels 1 -3). I believe we should all be free to love who we love, to identify in whatever way feels most natural to us, and I am honored to hold space for anyone who is questioning what is "right" for them. I am fortunate to have worked with individuals from many continents. I strive to be aware of the power and privilege I have in the therapy space. I invite dialogue and play for exploring issues of cultural identity, race, class, trauma and abuse of power. I am an out-of-network provider for Wellfleet-Cigna (SVA, NYU, Cooper Union, Sarah Lawrence, etc.) and submit the paperwork on client's behalf.

It takes courage to reach out for help. Sometimes, the tools and supports we have aren’t enough to navigate big transitions and changes in our lives, or to make the changes we long for. In those moments, therapy can help us understand what’s holding us back and develop a plan that will help reduce our suffering and increase well-being. My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented. I am passionate about partnering with young adults and families in the journey toward healing and believe strongly in providing identity-affirming, culturally responsive care at all stages of the therapeutic process. I specialize in evidence-based treatment for a variety of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, traumatic stress, OCD, borderline personality disorder, and ADHD. I also work with individuals who struggle with self-harming behaviors, addiction, and suicidal thoughts and/or behaviors. If you are looking for support and not sure where to turn to next, feel free to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation.

As a mental health counselor, I work with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma-related concerns, suicidal ideation, self-esteem challenges, family conflict, relationship challenges, emotional regulation, and life transitions. No matter what you’re struggling with, I believe in creating a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where you feel heard and understood. My goal is to be a compassionate, collaborative therapist as we work through challenges together, and I look forward to helping you build on your strengths and work toward meaningful change. I'm passionate about creating a space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes. To do that, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and person-centered approaches to help you better manage your emotions and navigate challenges, tailoring my approach to your unique experiences and goals. I also incorporate art and play-based interventions to support your self-expression and engagement. My path to becoming a therapist began with working in case management at a nonprofit organization, supporting individuals living with severe mental health challenges and co-occurring substance use in a community residence setting. That experience deepened my commitment to providing compassionate, person-centered, trauma-informed care, and it's why I bring empathy and curiosity about your unique experience to every session. Outside of my work as a therapist, I enjoy baking, spending time with my family and cats, trying new recipes, and exploring new restaurants and cuisines. I also make time for self-care to recharge.

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in major life transitions, difficulty in relationships, depression, anxiety, mood instability, body dysmorphia, perfectionism, people-pleasing, sexual trauma, intergenerational conflicts, and identity exploration for individual adults and couples. My experience includes 10 years providing care coordination across various social service settings and 5 years offering psychotherapy, with a focus on adults navigating stressors in micro and macro settings within family systems, relationships, workplaces, and larger systems of oppression and marginalization. I believe the bond between a patient and therapist can serve as a healing space to practice newer, healthier ways of relating to your environment. I look forward to practicing vulnerability, exploring patterns of behavior, and challenging ingrained beliefs in our work together. As a bi-cultural South Asian and white Jewish New Yorker, I ground my practice in an anti-racism, anti-oppression framework. My holistic approach creates a transparent and accountable space where we can explore and affirm multiple aspects of your identity (cultural upbringing, gender, race, spirituality, class, ability, and sexuality) while examining areas of privilege and power and clarifying your personal values and goals. Every patient is the expert on their own experience, and my wish for each person I work with is to become empowered by cultivating a deeper understanding of themselves and a greater love for their communities. To help patients home in on their strengths, I offer concrete coping tools for navigating hardships, along with tangible, measurable goals to work toward. Depending on your unique needs, we can utilize various modalities, including a psychodynamic relational approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness meditation techniques. My path to becoming a therapist began with a wish to deepen my understanding of how humans internalize the messages we receive from birth from our families, cultures, and institutions about morality, beauty, and self-worth. Coupled with an understanding of human nervous systems, trauma responses, and psychological defense mechanisms, I bring this comprehensive perspective to each session. I love singing, dancing, and reading, and I cherish spending time with family and friends.

I GREW UP IN THE IN-BETWEEN — moving back and forth between the US and China, I know first-hand what it is like to be faced with the unknown, the struggle of finding yourself in a new place, a new culture, a new stage of life, or a new identity. I FIND JOY in helping people find the pieces of themselves they can rely on and fall in love with through it all. My goal is to honor the beauty of your existence while teaching you the skills that can carry you through rougher times. The process of healing, learning who you are and what you need to care for yourself, is a challenging but rewarding one. IT TAKES COURAGE to confront and accept yourself completely, and I hope to provide a compassionate and safe space for you to explore, to grieve, to rage, or to find joy in everything that you've experienced. The fact that you have survived everything so far to be here now is more important than anything else. It is an honor for me to witness your courage and your strength. IT IS A PRIVILEGE to be a part of your journey. I admire you. You matter to me.
