Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you've been carrying the weight of anxiety, trauma, relationship struggles, identity questions, or overwhelming emotions for a long time. You don't have to navigate those challenges alone. I work with young adults who are ready to better understand themselves, break unhelpful patterns, and create lasting change. Whether you're navigating depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, personality concerns, life transitions, or questions surrounding identity, therapy can provide both practical tools and a space to process what you've been through. My approach is collaborative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each person. I integrate evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), while recognizing that every person's experiences and goals are unique.
Our Goal. Our Therapists want to help you find healing. Trauma and grief can disrupt your daily functioning, your ability to feel emotions, and your relationships with others. Let's reconnect your mind, body, and emotions so that the real you can live in the real world without fear or anxiety. Our Clients. We've worked with children, teens, and adults. They've been survivors of physical abuse, sexual abuse, assault, cancer, accidents, addiction, loss, and everyday stress. They are students, moms, dads, foster kids, veterans, law enforcement, first responders, therapists, clergy, and everything in between.
Andrea Durkee is a licensed professional counselor. She really enjoys working with adults, families, and especially children. She has experience in helping individuals with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, divorce, child behavior issues, ADHD, mild autism, separation anxiety, OCD, school issues and social skill issues, among others. Andrea likes to build rapport and trust with each person she sees. She assesses the needs and the unique personality and strengths of each individual. She is able to draw on her years of experience working in community mental health, a family residential program, and as a school counselor. Working in a school gives her insight into how a child’s symptoms can impact their school life and the kinds of interventions that can help. Andrea's approach is client-centered therapy, which can include cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, psychoeducation, and others. She also uses art, games, and books with children to provide guided experiential learning. Whatever issue brings a person to counseling, her goal is to provide a caring and helpful experience.
Being at a big university can be intimidating. For many years, I have been helping people gain insight into themselves to better understand their feeling. Times of transition and uncertainty can be stressful, but today there are many variables in this world which may create these big feelings. I work with clients through an interactive approach, trying to help them explore and verbalize what they are experiencing, and create a road map to help them reach their goals. I feel that we all demonstrate behaviors which we may not understand. Through exploration, I help clients "connect the dots" to help them gain insight as to why they do what they do. Once they have this understanding, it becomes more of a conscious choice as to how they wish to move forward. The client and I become a "team", trying to explore these issues together. Even though I see clients virtually, I can be seen visiting the MSU campus with my therapy dog, an Alaskan Malamute named Ichabod. We often attend on-campus events and are present for the "Out of the Darkness Walk" for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention(AFSP). My areas of expertise are helping people who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and struggles with transition.

Hello, I'm Sophia! I am a licensed professional counselor with a passion to assist with life transitions. Life is a journey that can present various challenges having tools to navigate this journey is a must! I offer a eclectic approach to ensure that your mental health needs are met.
Hi there! I am a mental health therapist (LMSW) who offers virtual appointments only, with some flexibility for weekday and/or weekend scheduling. I have limited capacity to accommodate emergency sessions. I currently work with adult individuals only. I am an unambiguously Black, pansexual, cis-presenting, able bodied femme who understands and emphasizes the importance of intersectionality within mental health. Born and raised in Detroit, I have a thorough understanding of the environmental obstacles marginalized folx are challenged with when exploring the state of their mental health. I uphold the belief that exploration and management of mental health is a life-long journey, and I take pride in being able to assist on this journey. I have an eclectic approach to mental health, including the promotion of methods for holistic health. My areas of focus include creating safe spaces for Black folx, POC, non-monogamous folx, and those in the LGBTQIA2SP+ communities. I provide talk therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral informed therapy (DBT-informed), motivational interviewing (MI), and solution-focused therapy models. While these are my current areas of comfort, I am open to exploring additional modalities that may be of interest to clients. Therapy is a collaborative space, and I treat it as such. Other areas of focus include treatments for anxiety, depression, fat acceptance/liberation, intersectional stigmas, ableism, ageism, sexism, womanism, mindfulness, sexual liberation, sexual health, communication skills, academics, life skills, religious trauma, and the importance of Black femmes putting their cape down and resting. I look forward to being part of your healing process.
One of the things I love most about being a therapist is getting to witness people grow into the fullest, most authentic version of themselves. It’s incredibly meaningful to walk alongside someone as they work through challenges, uncover new insights, and build a life that feels more manageable, intentional, and aligned with who they really are. Watching that progress unfold — from the first session to the breakthroughs along the way — is a privilege I never take for granted. In our sessions, you can expect a space that’s centered around you. I always begin by inviting you to share whatever’s been on your mind lately. I find that when we don’t start there, the thoughts or worries closest to the surface can sometimes get in the way of our deeper work. But if you’re not sure what to talk about or nothing specific is coming up that day, that’s totally okay — I’ll guide us back to the goals you’ve set for therapy or revisit what we’ve been working on. My approach is person-centered, which means you get to lead the way and I’ll meet you there with support and structure. When I describe therapy to people in everyday language, I often say it has two layers. The first is what I call the band-aid approach — where I help you build tools and coping strategies that provide immediate relief. Whether you’re managing anxiety, navigating a conflict, or simply feeling overwhelmed, we’ll work on practical ways to feel better right now. From there, we’ll gently dig deeper into the “why” and the “how” — exploring what’s really going on beneath the surface so we can create long-term change. It’s about building a system in your life that helps you respond more effectively to challenges, emotions, or patterns of behavior. I deeply believe that each person’s story is shaped by their unique life experiences, cultural background, family dynamics, relationships, and more. These influences often play a big role in how we view the world and how we respond to stress or conflict. In therapy, I’ll help you make sense of those influences while also working through whatever issues are most present in your life right now. Healing happens when you’re ready for it — not when someone else tells you it’s time.

I believe you are more than what happened to you. You are also more than the challenges you are facing right now. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins with understanding what is happening beneath the surface. I work with individuals navigating stress, trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, and the emotional demands of high-pressure environments. My goal is to create a space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported without judgment. My professional background spans social work, crisis response, trauma-informed care, law enforcement, and behavioral health. That experience has given me a unique perspective on how stress, trauma, relationships, work, and life experiences can shape the way we think, feel, and respond. Therapy isn't about "fixing" you. You're not broken. It's about helping you better understand yourself, develop practical tools, process what you've experienced, and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and resilience. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, emotionally exhausted, or simply recognize that something needs to change, you don't have to navigate it alone. My goal is simple: to help you understand your story, strengthen your capacity to navigate what comes next, and create a life in which you can truly thrive.
