Life has a way of exhausting us, especially when it feels like we’re chasing standards no one could possibly meet. I know this struggle deeply. Like so many of us, I’ve juggled work, relationships and other obligations while forgetting to take care of myself. I know what it feels like to carry heavy expectations—as a woman of color and a child of an immigrant, I’ve often felt the weight of needing to be strong, capable, and successful all at once. I specialize in helping clients navigate anxiety and depression, and overcome the challenges of life transitions. As a new mother, I have expanded my skills in supporting perinatal individuals as well.

Hello, my name is Kristen Cooper MacDiarmid. I am a licensed professional counselor that works with children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in anxiety and mood disorders, but I also have extensive experience with school and behavioral issues. In this time of turmoil and change, it is more important than ever to take care of our mental health while maintaining our physical health and well being; therefore, I am now offering telehealth appointments for both play and talk therapy. I believe that everyone has the strength and ability to succeed deep within themselves, even if you can’t see it because of your current situation or mindset. I want to help you find that inner ability, pull from that innate strength, and learn the techniques that will help bring out the best you have within you. Whether through play therapy as a child or talk therapy as an adult, I can help you find techniques that will work for you to help you manage the daily stressors of life, make radical life changes, or to work through trauma. I can work with you to find ways to reframe your thinking and provide noticeable change and help facilitate peace in your life.
I earned a Master of Science in Nursing degree specializing in Psychiatry from The University of Texas at Arlington. I am proud to say I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I am a true believer that not one of my fellow humans is immune to stress, anxiety, and feelings of sadness at some point in their life. We all find ourselves feeling vulnerable at times. It is completely normal to question why we feel the emotions that we do, why we seem to fall apart at times, and better yet, how we can get through it all in one beautiful piece. I think the first step to meaningful recovery from anxiety, depression, complex mental illness, and/or substance use is to reach out and ask for help. It is a difficult, but very brave action. I am not one to judge, look down on, question your past experiences, or current situation. I am very good at rationally breaking down a situation and I can offer practical advice and medication suggestions depending on your goal in mind. College can feel overwhelming. Classes pile up, friendships shift, family expectations get louder, and suddenly you’re supposed to make big decisions about your future while still figuring out who you are. It’s a lot, and many students tell me they feel stressed, anxious, or unsure of what they’re doing — even if they look “fine” on the outside. If you’ve been feeling this way too, you’re not alone. I’m a therapist who works with college students dealing with stress, social anxiety, career worries, and the ups and downs of adjusting to college life. In our sessions, you get a calm, supportive space to talk about what’s going on, sort through the noise, and learn ways to feel more grounded and confident day to day. We’ll look at what’s getting in your way, what you want for yourself, and what small steps can help you feel better — without pressure, judgment, or complicated language. You set the pace, and we focus on what matters most to you. Therapy can be a place to slow down, breathe, and figure out what you need to feel more like yourself again.
For Students Wrestling with Identity College is supposed to be where you figure out who you are—but that’s not always easy. Maybe your family, culture, or faith told you one version of who you should be, and it doesn’t match how you actually feel inside. You’ve tried to belong, but it can feel like parts of you have to stay hidden. I specialize in working with students exploring cultural, spiritual, gender, or sexual identity. Together, we’ll make space for your questions, doubts, and discoveries without judgment. Therapy isn’t about fitting into a box—it’s about helping you feel sturdy in who you are, even when it feels messy or uncertain. If you’re ready for a place where all of you is welcome, reach out today. Let’s start with a conversation about what you’re carrying and what you hope to find.
Solutions not band-aids, because clients deserve more than just the alleviation of symptoms. Treatment should be customized to meet the needs of the clients, because although more than one client may have a similar diagnosis everyone should be treated as an individual. For those interested in a higher standard of care whether you are managing stress, struggles with sleep, depression, anxiety, or another mental health challenge feel free to contact me via email to set up a consultation. If you are at this website you have already taken a step in the process towards change, so let's take the next step together.
Hi there! I’d love to speak to you about problems you’re facing. Issues may include anxiety and depression stemming from academic concerns, adjustment to college life, relationship struggles, career and financial stress, all of which are common struggles to have during these formative years. I work well with people who have underlying traits of perfectionism, fear of failure and rejection, and people who struggle with shame-based thinking. Uniquely I have experience working with individuals who have cultural adjustment issues, eating disorders, and people who have moderate to severe mental illnesses. If you find me to be a good fit, I’d love to consult further on how I can help! And thank you for taking your time to read this.
