Do you find yourself struggling in your day-to-day life, whether it be with anxiety, depression, life stressors, interpersonal issues, etc? Are you looking for someone who will provide empathy and non-judgement to help you process these difficulties and collaborate with you on creating tools for change? I would love the opportunity to work with you! As a therapist I strive to work with you to discover your strengths, develop and maintain effective coping strategies and skills to facilitate change, and provide support for the difficulties you may be going through. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults and have a particular passion for working with young adults/college students. I have an eclectic approach to therapy and pull from a wide range of interventions, including CBT activities, DBT skill-building, mindfulness and strengths-based exercises, and talk therapy. Everybody experiences difficulties and challenges at some point in their lives. Some of these challenges can impact how we function and cope. I am here to provide support so that you do not feel you have to struggle through these challenges on your own!

I work at Southeast Psych, a private group practice located in the South Park area of Charlotte, NC. I collaborate with adults and emerging adults (age 15+) to help identify meaningful goals, increase self-awareness, and process challenging thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Many of the clients I work with are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief/bereavement, life transitions, difficulty establishing boundaries, or challenges in coping with emotions. My approach to therapy places emphasis on the relationship between client and therapist; allowing the client to guide sessions in the direction that is most relevant and meaningful. In addition, I utilize techniques and skills drawn from Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT), in order to tailor session to the uniqueness of the client and their life experiences. If you feel we may be a good fit for each other or have any questions, please reach out.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with about a decade of professional counseling experience. I enjoy many things, including wandering the great outdoors, getting lost in a good story or my latest creative endeavors, hanging with my people and my pets, and learning about others as I journey alongside them. Whether someone needs a guide or simply some encouraging company, I’m here for it! I have a wide range of experience with various demographics and concerns, but specialize in working with challenges related to personal development, identity and values, relationships (including the relationship with oneself), and trauma. These can include relationship issues (family, friends, or romantic partners), parenting/guardianship, boundaries, grief, various traumas, fears and phobias, self-esteem and self-efficacy, guilt and shame, depressive and anxiety disorders, health issues, healthcare and educational work, and significant life changes. My approach is holistic, person-centered, strengths-based, and multicultural, and may combine aspects of the following: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Schema Therapy Attachment-Based Therapy Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Existential Therapy Gottman Method Mindfulness Therapy Narrative Therapy Play and Filial Therapy Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) I also believe that nature, music, creativity, and humor can play important roles in mental health, and may incorporate these elements into my practice. And, I would love to learn more about your interests and perhaps find ways to bring them into therapy! One of my key strengths as a counselor is my adaptability; I make it a priority to understand your needs and preferences, tailoring my approach accordingly. I always strive to be a warm and approachable counselor who is non-judgmental, respectful, honest, compassionate, and empowering. While I maintain professionalism, I also like to create a relaxed atmosphere during our sessions. (You can expect to see the real me, and I hope to see the real you!) I want therapy to be a positive and rewarding experience for you, and I will do my best to help you feel welcome. During our first sessions, I will likely focus on going over the basic policies and expectations, answering questions, getting to know you better, and learning how I can best support you in this chapter of your life. I'm here to meet you wherever you're at, and I would be honored to accompany you, support you, and empower you on your journey toward holistic wellbeing!

There may come a time in life when you lose a person or pet and you recognize that the term, "My heart is broken" means so much more than emotional pain...it's a physical pain as well. You are lost, scared, lonely, and your world has been turned upside down. I can help. Maybe you have lost yourself in alcohol or drug abuse or wonder if you are drinking or using too much. You aren't a bad person but you are embarrassed or ashamed to discuss your alcohol or drug use. Let me help guide you back to the path that was meant for you. You have served your city, county, state, or country as a First Responder or Military member, but sometimes you struggle to feel your very best. Many people can't relate to what you've experienced or even done. At times, you may become stuck in your thoughts, memories, and experiences. Having been in Law Enforcement, I understand the typcial dark sense of humor often used that most people don't understand. I also recognize the need to focus on the task and I will work along side of you to resolve concerns as efficiently as possible. I also work well with those who experience anxiety/panic attacks, symptoms associated with ADHD, describe themselves as "perfectionists", and parents who seek parenting assistance. I am a survivor of suicide loss and frequently support others who have also experienced the loss of a loved one to suicide. I also work closely with the LGBTQIA+ community. I view each person and situation as unique. I am here to create a safe place for you to explore and process your feelings and experiences for which you are seeking services. I am not your “stereotypical” therapist. We can pray together, cuss like sailors, cry together, or share a good laugh. I believe that the use of appropriate self-disclosure can also strengthen the bond between the therapist and client. I am caring and compassionate, but I am also direct and will push you to confront what is holding you back from living your best life. It takes courage to ask for help, and I am beyond grateful to be the one to walk beside you in your journey of healing. I graduated from East Carolina, in 2000, with dual Masters Degrees: 1) Rehabilitation Counseling (vocational, emotional, physical, and behavioral concerns), and 2) Substance Abuse and Clinical Counseling. I started my career as an Addictions and Dual Diagnosis Therapist. After approximately 5 years as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), I started working with and advocating for families involved in the Juvenile Justice system. Nearly 16 years later, I decided to return to the counseling profession. Since returning, I have worked in a group setting as well as having opened my own private practice. I am currently seeing clients in person and via telehealth. I have available appointments throughout the week. No weekend appointments are available at this time.

Our experiences in this world, often based on identities or trauma, can leave us feeling stressed and uncertain. It's confusing to have your worries get in the way of making the connections with people that you long for; or to be so convinced you will fail that it's hard to take the first step in doing the next thing you want to do; or to be suddenly totally overwhelmed in the middle of this exciting new experience you'd been waiting for. Sometimes people need some help slowing down, reconnecting with themselves, and finding new ways to respond so that they can move forward with hope, self-compassion, and empowerment. I have spent many years working in college mental health, helping students from all identities and backgrounds navigate the growth and challenge of the college experience. My approach is collaborative. Together we figure out what's getting in the way for you. I'll be with you in the hard moments, naming and exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences so that you can find ways to respond to them that are helpful. Increased connection with your body is key. Let's also celebrate the wins, big and small, along the way. Finding a therapist that is a good fit is so important—if you're not comfortable enough to tell your therapist what's really going on, therapy won't work. Let's find a time to connect to see if I would be a good fit for you in your next step.

You are doing the most! If it feels like there is no good news right now, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe you feel like you're tired of talking about what is bothering you and you want to start feeling better. Therapy is a safe place where you can talk about your feelings. This is a judgment-free zone and welcomes all who wish to expand their sense of self. My role is to connect with you so that you can experience your thoughts and feelings in a way that is different from how you do it at home or with your friends. I look forward to meeting you and listening to everything you have to say.
