Wright's Care Counseling Services
Hi, my name is Richard Howard and I am one of the licensed counselors here at Wright's Care Counseling Services. As the one setting up this account, I feel that it's necessary to include the practice as a whole rather than simply myself in case you as a patient have specific preferences as to who you would like to work with. Feel free to check it out and learn more about our practice. We provide in-office and telehealth (phone or zoom) counseling sessions and have offices in Greensboro, Asheboro, and Winston-Salem. We take private insurances as well as Medicaid.

I specialize in working with college-age clients who grew up in chaotic or neglectful households. My clients often appear to have it all together- high-achieving, involved on campus, the friend everyone leans on. Despite this, they struggle with anxiety in relationships, fear of others' judgment, difficulty letting people get close, exhaustion that rest doesn't fix, and a sense of being lost or like an imposter, even when things look good on paper. Often, at the core of these struggles are unresolved wounds or narratives from early in life. During our most formative years, we adopt lasting beliefs about ourselves and the world- a blueprint we carry into adulthood. For many of my clients, that blueprint is resurfacing now, in the first real independence of college: new relationships, distance from family, and the pressure to figure out who they are outside of old roles. It shapes how they connect with roommates, partners, and friends, and how they handle the stress of exams, deadlines, and an uncertain future- often without their realizing it. These narratives, inherited from caregivers, family, or environment, become deeply ingrained and unconscious. While they may have helped us survive earlier in life, they can become counterproductive as we step into adulthood, creating invisible barriers to connection and well-being. Putting these thoughts into words in a safe space allows them to surface where they can be understood and rewritten.

We all experience grief in our day-to-day lives. We could be feeling grief regarding a chance not taken, a divorce, the loss of a relationship, the loss of a pet, the loss of a loved one, the loss/damage of belongings, the loss of trust in the world, experiencing holidays without someone special, or having to move. We will begin by giving space for the losses and adjustments you have experienced throughout your life, ensuring each version of you can release these emotions and process them in a safe space. I will add helpful interventions, techniques, and educational tools to provide additional support and deeper understanding. I will be your cheerleader. When you feel isolated, confused, or overwhelmed, I will shine light and provide space and consistency. I believe in gentle pushes when needed. I will give space to process emotions, learn new therapeutic interventions, and work with you to create direct action or action goals that honor you for lasting, meaningful change. We will utilize cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, solution focused therapy, maintain/create effective coping skills, practice stress reduction habits, utilize grief therapy techniques, and honor rituals/memorials as needed/wanted. I work with clients who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and family/relationship issues. I will cultivate space for you to process these, honor these, and take action steps. We will get you to a place where you can experience the present more fully while honoring your past.

Have you been resonating with the autistic experience that you're seeing others talk about? Are you suffering from autistic burnout after a lifetime of heavily masking your “real self”? Do you hold yourself to ridiculously high standards, then feel defeated when things don’t go perfectly? Is your connection with others not quite what you pictured it being at this stage in life? The individuals I partner with often feel stuck or lost in an area of their life. They seek to better understand themselves, find healing, or achieve personal growth. Many face challenges with low self-worth, relationships, sports-related issues, performance anxiety, managing stress, or varying levels of tech addiction. They aim to break free from feeling stuck, build confidence, and accomplish personal goals. Often, they're aware of changes they need to make and may find it difficult to take those steps on their own—if this sounds like you and you're ready to make a change, let's do this together. My approach to working with people is rooted in attachment theory and client-centered practices. I utilize an integrative approach to help people tap into their inner resilience, face fears, break out of unhealthy patterns, and accomplish personal growth. I'm here to help you break free from whatever may be holding you back. We can create a safe and accepting space together where you will be supported and cared for. Reach out to see if we're a good fit.

I love working with adults (age 18 and up) on anxiety, depression, relationship stress, grief, and body image issues. I enjoy educating clients about attachment theory and helping people learn how to cope when their attachment styles are triggered. I have been a therapist since 2017 and bring a lot of experience to my practice. I am very warm and funny, but can be direct when it is appropriate. My goal is to help clients learn in session, so I do provide feedback. I like teaching clients about boundaries and how to effectively communicate them.

I enjoy working with young people and will help you untangle your thoughts, get in touch with the strongest parts of your inner being, and get back to living life on your own terms. Maybe you find yourself living too much in the past, or too much in the future. Maybe you want to be a better partner, feel optimistic about the future again, and feel like the person you have always imagined yourself to be. Through therapy, we look at ways in which your thoughts and beliefs shape your entire reality, often negatively and unrealistically. In every journey, you need a guide. A guide to navigate the stresses inherent in everyday life.
