Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
Are you controlled by the feeling that something bad is going to happen all the time? Life with anxiety can make everything feel on edge, exhausting and overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to. You can learn how to navigate the way you feel with ease and let go of self doubt. Through therapy, we work to build a relationship of trust so you feel comfortable sharing the true struggle and exhaustion you are facing day to day. From there, therapy will help validate your emotions and the experiences that shape who you are. You will receive weekly support into your struggles and a new perspective with insight into these very unique struggles. I will work with you to learn to love yourself by seeing yourself with compassion. We will work to see your flaws as your individualistic capabilities and learn more about why your brain operates on constant overdrive.
The world is intense right now, isn’t it? And on top of it all, you're having to juggle school, a social life, and everything else! I imagine you might be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, tense, stuck, lonely, ashamed, worried, sad, or any other number of feelings. Or maybe you just feel numb or not sure what you’re feeling anymore. That’s okay. All of you is welcome here. I’m here to support you wherever you are, working together to explore your world and where to go from here. Whether it be the systems we live in, events from your past or present, the patterns inside you, connections in your life, or something else that brings you here, we will explore next steps together. My counseling style integrates many different elements. I am person-centered, where I seek to understand your experience from your perspective, and use multicultural counseling, where I consider the systems that impact your life. I am trauma-focused, trained in EMDR therapy and acute stress modalities to support you in moving through trauma, whether it be acute, ongoing, or long past. I also have a somatic focus, inviting your body’s wisdom and parts into the session, and an attachment-based lens, looking at how your early relationships influence how you relate to others now. I most often work with people who have experienced trauma, who have negative beliefs about themself they just can't shake, and/or who are in the LGBTQIA+ community, especially those who are trans* or gender expansive. I also have experience supporting neurodiverse people; individuals struggling with anxiety or grief; and people going through personal, spiritual, vocational, and relational transitions. I know the search for a counselor can be difficult because I have been there many times myself. Please reach out if you have any questions! I would love to connect and see if we might be a good fit to begin a counseling journey together. A little about me outside of being a counselor: I enjoy wandering in nature, dancing, reading, playing board games, and connecting with loved ones near and far. I also spend a fair bit of time on my own self-growth, including undoing racism within me, taking care of my wounded parts, and reaching out for support as needed.

When Tiffany began her career, she used more well-known techniques, like cognitive behavioral therapy and play therapy, but it wasn’t long before she became increasingly aware that the mental health field needed alternatives. Neurofeedback takes advantage of the brain's ability to change itself allowing a person of any age to make changes in behavior and thinking patterns more easily. Using a combination of counseling and Neurofeedback, Tiffany began to see more substantial changes in her client's lives. Currently, Tiffany utilizes Neurofeedback and Heart Rate Variability in combination with traditional counseling. Click here to read Tiffany’s article on the popular Blog—Triad Mom’s on Main. Tiffany works with a variety of clientele utilizing a person-centered approach, which means sessions will start with you and your needs. Together, we will explore the issues that you bring to counseling in a holistic way with emphasis on emotional and personal history perspectives. Tiffany‘s experience has allowed her to work closely with many children, teenagers, and adults of different needs and backgrounds where she brings enthusiasm, compassion and cross-cultural understanding to her work towards healing and wholeness.

I enjoy helping to support people as they navigate through the many different waves of life. I help to create a warm, non judgmental, and supportive environment where clients are free to talk about their stories. I draw from a number of different treatment modalities, but most importantly, meet the client where they are at. While each individual's experience is unique, I regularly work with clients around topics related to anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, relationship concerns, sexuality, ADHD, life's transitions, familial conflict and many more. In this busy world, it can be difficult to make time to focus on your needs. Therapy provides a space to do so and share your story in a safe and non judgmental environment. Sessions are a time to practice self care, utilize your strengths, and develop tools that help you gain a better understanding of you. I would love to have the chance to work with you and hear your story. Currently, sessions are teletherapy based allowing you more flexibility to be in a familiar setting and join from any mobile or desktop device. I would love to help you with the process of learning more about you and develop the tools to navigate the many waves of life.

I offer affirming and anti-oppressive space for you to explore who you are, what you've been through, how those experiences have shaped you, and how you'd like to shape your future. Everything is connected: symptoms such as anxiety and depression are often related to relationship and resource issues, which connect to things like identity, neurotype, or environment. I work with teens and adults struggling with multiple concerns within themselves, their relationships, and their communities. I've worked with students dealing with things like: understanding their own gender/sexual/romantic identities, social isolation and anxiety, relationships with family, friends, and significant others, academic concerns, on-campus discrimination, and histories of childhood mistreatment or abuse.
