Now welcoming new clients. I have a passion for working with clients who come from complex family systems and are ready to break away and heal from harmful generational patterns. Clients come to me when they are struggling to re-connect with the authentic version of themselves and/or want to heal from relational wounds and deepen their connection with others. It can be hard to exist authentically in the world due to trauma, societal expectations, and systemic concerns, but becoming the best version of yourself is possible. I utilize an empathetic, humanistic, and strength-based approach. I recognize that all of my clients are unique and, as such, have diverse wants, needs, goals, and expectations of self. I will meet you where you are at, help you identify what the best version of yourself looks like, and help to unpack the roadblocks along the way. I believe in humanizing the experience of therapy and view the therapist-client relationship as an active agent for change. To share your vulnerabilities, fears, and apprehensions with someone is courageous and it is my honor to walk alongside you on this journey!

Constant negative thoughts and relationship patterns can trick us into that nothing has ever helped and nothing will. If you’re sick of feeling constantly exhausted, distracted, drained, numb, empty, restless, or irritable, therapy can help. I am an expert in helping teens and adults tackle seasons of life that are especially tough. I support people struggling with racing thoughts, constant worry, freezing or lashing out, feeling edgy, compulsive rituals, or the need for “just right.” You already do so much for everyone—let me help you. Starting therapy can feel terrifying. Finding the right therapist is essential! But research proves even severe anxiety or trauma can improve with therapy. With effective support and your willingness to try, change will happen. Call or email TODAY - I offer in-person and virtual sessions!

I’m Dr. Amy Syper, a licensed psychologist and founder of Strength in Becoming. During the first session, our goal is to start to get to know you, what’s important to you, what you’re experiencing, what may still be lingering from the past, what your strengths and resources are, and to set some initial goals for our work together. Based on the initial session and our collaborative conversation, we will have some ideas as to the approaches that will be likely to help you achieve the change you’re striving for. Our varied educational and professional backgrounds mean that we’re ready to help a wide variety of clients. We utilize a variety of approaches and techniques that will work for YOU, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapies, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, existential therapy, emotion-focused couples therapy, and others. All of our work is trauma-informed.
As a psychologist, I partner with clients to help them heal from raw emotional pain, recognize their inner strengths, and build resiliency in the face of life’s biggest challenges. My style is one that is warm and nurturing while also direct and honest. If you’re feeling stuck, not good enough, lonely, overwhelmed, devastated, or ashamed, you are not alone. I have dedicated my career to learning gold standard treatments to ensure that when clients have the courage to reach out for help, I am able to offer treatment interventions that they can trust will make a difference. I am a clinical specialist with expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of trauma/PTSD, relationship issues, depression, complicated grief (suicide loss, perinatal loss), and unwanted sexual experiences (rape, sexual assault, harassment, violence). I began practicing in 2005 and have been a licensed psychologist since 2010.
Wonderful things are possibly when we connect with our authentic self. We see a reduction in anxiety, depression, shame and doubt. We see an increase in confidence, assertiveness and mindfulness. If you are feeling motivated to address some of the "stuff" getting in the way of your wellbeing, feel free to reach out to further discuss if we'd be a good fit.
Amy brings a warm, compassionate, and calm energy to each patient interaction. As a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, she strives to provide a caring relationship where each person can feel safe and accepted. Research increasingly supports an integrative approach to mental health care, which can include medication, therapy, nutritional support, and exploration of habits, history, and stressors. Amy will collaborate with you to find a treatment plan that is clinically appropriate and sensitive to your personal needs. She welcomes all patients but has special interest in perinatal mental health, mood disorders, ADHD, and working with teens, LGBTQ+ individuals and older adults. Amy graduated with a master’s degree in nursing from Regis University in Denver and was inspired to choose mental health as her practice specialty. Her graduate level psychiatric clinical training provided opportunities to work with diverse patient populations in and out of the hospital setting, in a corrections facility and at an outpatient addiction treatment center. Most recently, she worked at a small private outpatient clinic supporting clients experiencing a wide variety of mental health diagnoses. As a registered nurse, she worked for 16 years at St. Joseph Hospital caring for patients after surgery, during and after high-risk pregnancy, and caring for families experiencing fetal loss. She obtained certification in maternal-newborn and pain management nursing born out of passion and experience in these areas. In her free time, Amy enjoys playing flute in the Lone Tree Symphony, attending film festivals, traveling, hiking and being with family and friends. She is accepting new patients and provides visits both in person at the Lakewood office and via telehealth.

I am a religious trauma therapist in Denver. Recovering from conservative religion can leave you questioning who you are, what you believe, and how to trust yourself. Maybe you're stuck in perfectionism, constantly thinking, “I’m not good enough,” leading you to isolate from others or hold yourself back from your goals. Maybe you have trouble making decisions because you believe you can't trust your instincts. You might not remember a time when things felt different. But you’re ready for relief: a kinder inner voice, more joy, and a deeper connection to your authentic self. You’re ready to feel confident, not because you’re perfect, but because you’re finally free to be you. As an experienced self-worth, anxiety, and trauma therapist, I believe you can untangle the messages from your past that are holding you back. You don’t have to keep making yourself small and you don’t have to do the work alone. Visit my website to schedule a free 15-minute consultation so we can discuss how I can help.
