I am a white, queer, fat, disabled, AuDHD, genderfluid therapist based in Houston, Texas. I specialize in working with clients exploring their gender, sexual, or romantic identity, polyamory/relationship anarchy, late-diagnosed Autism or ADHD, adults seeking support around chronic pain and illness, and processing trauma. I am passionate about LGBTQ+ rights (and human rights in general), intersectional feminism, anti-racism, and dismantling systems of oppression. I believe therapy should be a collaborative process, built on mutual respect and authenticity. You know more about your thoughts, feelings, and experiences than anyone else—my role is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental place for you to process your emotions and create a path moving forward. My therapeutic approach will vary from person to person depending on individual need and unique lived experience. I often use a blend of somatic work and mindfulness paired with consent-based, feminist, narrative, trauma-informed, neurodiverse-informed, emotionally focused therapies. I primarily work with adults in individual and group therapy.

You’ve always been the one who holds it together. The friend everyone leans on, the one who keeps the peace, even when you're falling apart inside. You’re kind, thoughtful, and always thinking about how others feel—sometimes to the point of losing sight of what you need. Maybe you grew up in a home where speaking up was risky, or you were labeled as “too much.” Now, in college or early adulthood, you feel lost - constantly second-guessing yourself, unsure who you are outside of relationships or achievements. You want to feel more grounded, confident, and in control of your life—but you’re not sure where to start.

Do you ever feel like no matter how hard you try, you are unable to see yourself as more than a body? That diet culture is so deeply ingrained in our society that it feels impossible to escape? You are not alone. We live in a world that has convinced us that pursuing an unrealistic thin ideal is the key to happiness. That if we "work hard enough," that void we constantly feel, will eventually go away. That's why my goal is to help you reach a place of acceptance so that you can experience a more fulfilling life, free from diet culture and the toxicity that ensues. I specialize in treating children (as young as 10), adolescents, and adults struggling with eating disorders, disordered eating, body dysmorphia, and other related disorders. As a bilingual therapist, I am able to conduct therapy sessions in Spanish. While my primary specialty is eating disorders, I also help individuals better cope with anxiety, manage life transitions, and develop a healthier sense of self. I believe that in order to fully heal, we must get to the root cause - exploring childhood trauma and interpersonal relationships is a big part of the work I do with my clients.

I’m Zac. My pronouns are they/them. I am a queer, nonbinary, and neurodivergent therapist and creative. I believe strongly in the power of connection, prioritizing things we enjoy, and maintaining curiosity, and those values guide my time with clients. I have years of experience working with college students of all ages and I'm passionate about offering support during an exciting, overwhelming time. I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA+ folks; individuals with Autism, ADHD, and/or Neurodivergence; those with interpersonal and chronic trauma, and those new to therapy. My hope for our time together is that you feel seen and heard, that you don’t worry about being judged or rejected—any of the feelings that make it difficult to speak up in life! Removing those barriers makes so much possible. I incorporate Relational-Cultural Therapy (RCT), mindfulness, realistic self-care, social justice and feminist theory, creative expression, creative coping strategies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), safety planning, and fat & body liberation work. Ultimately, how I approach our sessions will be tailored to you.

You’ve worked hard to get where you are. You’re successful, capable, and admired — yet inside you might feel anxious, overwhelmed, or like you’re barely holding it together. I often work with high-functioning students, student athletes, graduate students and new graduates and professionals who look put together on the outside but struggle with self-doubt, hidden stress, and emotions that feel out of control. You may be tired of carrying it all alone or feel like something has to change but don’t know where to start. I provide a grounded, supportive space where your experience is taken seriously and your goals matter. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep you feeling stuck and develop practical, personalized strategies that help you feel more confident, centered, and in charge of your life again. I help you strengthen internal resilience, deepen self-awareness, and build habits that align with the person you want to be. Many clients find greater clarity, calm, and self-trust as they learn to respond to life rather than just react. You can expect honest conversation, real support, and tools that actually work — so you can step into your strengths, lead with intention, and feel more fulfilled both personally and professionally.

Howdy! My name is A.B. and I’m a queer, nonbinary therapist born and raised right here in Texas. Don’t let the folksy exterior fool you: growing up in a small town taught me to treat strangers like family, to uplift and respect the folks around me, and, as my granddad always said, “If you can help ’em, then help ’em.” I’ve brought those values into my therapy work and left the bigotry and systemic oppression behind like the hogwash it is. I practice from a place of cultural humility, guided by the stories, strengths, and values my clients bring to the table. You’re the expert on your life, I’m just here to walk alongside you, bringing the tools I’ve got in my toolbelt to help you navigate whatever’s weighing you down. There’s nothing too big we can’t face together, and I trust that with you in the lead, we can work toward the outcomes you’re hoping for in therapy. I specialize in supporting clients through trauma, grief, mood disorders, LGBTQ+ issues, neurodivergence, identity exploration, crisis recovery, and relationship challenges. I also love working with children and their families around emotional regulation, school and family stress, and communication. I’ve got a soft spot for neurodivergent kids (and adults!) and bring a lot of energy and creativity into that work. In session, I pull from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including CBT, DBT, ACT, solution-focused, narrative, and collaborative therapies, plus a lot more. So don’t be surprised if I throw in a little art-making, somatic work, or IFS (parts work) now and then. I’m committed to being a lifelong learner, and if something isn’t clicking, I’ll work with you to find what does. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Sam Houston State University in 2023, and before that, I got my B.A. in Theatre Education. So I’m definitely open to getting creative in sessions, though just plain talkin’ is great, too. Outside of therapy, I love baking, storytelling in all its forms (theatre, concerts, poetry slams, and tabletop RPGs), and learning about folks whose lives are different from mine. I also enjoy spending time with my partner and our beloved pets Pip, Charlie, and Winston. If you think I might be the right counselor for you, I’d be honored to meet you. Feel free to email me at ab@vadacounseling.com or schedule a free consultation online.

Do you feel overwhelmed, burnout, mentally or physically exhausted? Are you struggling with anxiety and can’t seem to manage mood swings? Unable to achieve your goals due to lack of attention span and decreased motivation? There may be many contributing factors complicating your situation such as unresolved conflicts from childhood, substance abuse and interpersonal relationships. It may also be quite scary to seek medications and treatment for things you can feel but not see. But let me tell you- we are not our brains! Rather we are affected by the way how our brain functions and we all depend on the healthy flow of neurotransmitters to function and to thrive. Some brains produce these naturally, while others require some assistance and that’s nobody’s fault- same way that it is not an individuals fault for producing less insulin or thyroid hormone. So let’s aim to resolve these mental health issues together with holistic and integrative methods. As a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, graduate of Vanderbilt University and with over a decade of experience, I am well versed in evaluating, diagnosing and treating mental health disorders for children, adolescents and adults. I am truly committed to provide exceptional and high-quality psychiatric care. Utilizing extensive expertise and evidence-based practices to enhance mental health across the lifespan and eliminate disparities. Passionate about making a positive impact on individuals’ well-being.

Our time together will be spent figuring the aspects- emotional, intellectual, sensory-based, and behavioral- of life through out your own story. Growing into learning how to listen to yourself so you can trust what it is you know, and what it is you need will be at the core of each session so that the feelings of stress, overwhelm, anxiousness, depression no longer keep you detached from yourself. The tools I use are done with cultural considerations, and by acknowledging the extra burdens social constructs and systemic environments put on you. I start with listening and being a witness to your story. With your consent, I use therapeutic tools to assist you in taking an objective stance in your story, and in offering yourself compassion. Continuing through developing and honing in on how you understand your experience through strengthening the connection between your mind and body. I am also trained in and have used EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing) with children, teens, adults of both the neurodiverse (Autism, ADHD, etc.) and neurotypical populations. EMDR is used in session, with your consent, when you feel the need to address larger internal hurdles such as phobias or trauma(s) (also known as PTSD or C-PTSD). All of the work will be done at your pace and with your specific needs in mind. I am an affirming counselor and believe counseling should be for everyone. I understand the systemic pressure that can have you trying to “get it right!” A benefit to you may be my stance on de-stigmatizing mental health by avoiding rigid diagnoses and accepting that there is more than one way to live and thrive in this/your world.  I will be ready when you are. Until then, good luck on your search. My license number is #93296. I am supervised by Stamatis Bogdanos, LPC-S | #64556 in Houston, Tx.
