My clients are young women who are emotionally intelligent and highly self-aware; however, they still struggle with feelings of unworthiness and feel alone as they present to the world as "high-functioning." I help my clients make sense of the mismatch between what they “know” and what they feel and to move from surviving to thriving. My therapeutic style focuses on cultivating self-compassion and curiosity to offset the judgment we often use when relating to ourselves. A client of mine will hear me say, “All behavior makes sense, in context.” My aim is to be curious about your context to help you to see just how much you and your present experience makes sense.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, hopeless and struggling to connect with others? Is your inner critic getting the best of you? Is the way you learned to cope with life not working anymore? Considering therapy, but unsure of what to expect? Have you had trouble finding the right fit with past therapists? I tailor my therapeutic approach to your individual needs. I have a relaxed, accepting, and compassionate style. I enjoy humor and am comfortable with anger. I often work with those encouraged to attend by a parent, spouse, or partner, and those who are doubtful therapy can help. Give me a call, leave me a voicemail, or email for a free phone consultation and to schedule an appointment. I look forward to hearing from you, and will do my best to provide additional referral information if I am not the right fit for your needs. I am currently offering simple, virtual secure video telehealth sessions and secure phone sessions.
My practice offers both in person and virtual appointments, making it more convenient for your scheduling needs. My background has been working with college aged young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, OCD, ADHD, eating disorders, and career counseling/ vocational planning. It can be uncomfortable to start therapy but I want you to acknowledge you have already made the first step, so you are already making progress!

Welcome! I'm Joanna. I work with adolescents (16+) & adults, most frequently young adults. I particularly enjoy working with transitional issues - changes in school, jobs, family, relationships, identity, etc. Often, my clients are dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, and/or interpersonal conflict. I value working with folks with a range of backgrounds, races, faiths, genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. My work sees people through a systems lens, recognizes the oppressive barriers to mental wellness, and encourages reflection on cultural impact. My ideal client is open minded, patient, and motivated for change. I value flexibility in the therapeutic relationship and use a person-centered approach, whether that's structured skill building or an empathetic ear. I work mostly from an ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) framework, but also incorporate elements of CBT, DBT, and interpersonal therapy. I am not a true "blank slate" - healing comes from connections! I'm glad to have you here - it shows you've taken a huge first step towards healing, processing, and growth, and I'm honored to support you. Shoot me a message to get connected (note: telehealth only)! The extras: I am a cancer sun ISFJ, and I enjoy making pottery, reading fiction, going for walks/hikes, and watching reality TV with my dog.
Are you bothered by constant worry about classes, relationships, money, or looming life decisions? Negative thoughts about yourself that just won't stop? A racing heart, exhaustion, or trouble eating or sleeping? Disturbing memories that recur? Life may feel overwhelming, but greater peace is possible, and I'd be glad to help you get there. With specialized training in treating anxiety, grief, and trauma, my goal is to empower you so you can get back to feeling more like yourself. The thought of opening up about your struggles to someone new can feel scary, and I get it. I provide a comfortable, supportive, judgment-free space where you can be who you really are, begin to see your life in new ways, and move towards being the person you want to become.

I’m not your “just nod and validate everything” therapist. I have a B.S. from Penn State and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (Children, Adolescents, and Trauma) from Lock Haven—but more importantly, I meet you where you are, not where you “should” be. I use person-centered and parts work, but I’m flexible and tailor therapy to what actually works for you. I love working with teens and young adults, but if you’ve got a brain and feelings, we’ll get along. I’m direct, I use humor, and I’ll call you out (with care). I’m here to help you grow—even when it’s uncomfortable. My style? Person-centered and parts work at the core, with flexibility built in. I adjust, pivot, and pull from different approaches based on what actually helps you, not what sounds the most clinical or impressive. I want all of my clients to walk into my room and feel as though they are sitting down with a friend, not a professional. I focus heavily on building rapport, getting to know you as an individual and not just as "my client." We will laugh, cry, process, and cope together in your mental wellness journey!

I specialize in working with young adults navigating anxiety/depression, grief, family of origin issues, relationship stress, trauma (old and new) and self confidence concerns. I am certified in Mental Health Integrative Practices and lean towards the most holistic, natural methods of healing and wellness. I tailor my approach to each individuals' needs and consider the entire person (mind, body, spirit, energy, etc.). Every person has the incredible ability to change, grow, and heal and sometimes it's easier to do that with someone's support and perspective. If you're ready to grow in your self-awareness and develop behaviors that serve you positively in your life, reach out and let's get started!
I offer a collaborative and supportive space where you can explore your experiences with openness and honesty. Whether you are suffering from depression, anxiety, or you want a change of perspective in your life, I aim to make you feel understood. My style is warm, grounded, and attuned. Together, we will work toward greater clarity, emotional balance, and meaningful change.
Let’s face it—finding a therapist can feel a little awkward. You’re trying to choose someone you’ve never met and wondering if you’ll actually feel comfortable opening up to them. I get that. What matters most to me is that you feel like you can show up as yourself, without worrying about being judged or saying the “wrong” thing. I’ve worked with all kinds of people, and I can promise you, you don’t need to have everything together before coming to therapy. You can bring the messy stuff, the uncomfortable stuff, and the things you’re embarrassed to say out loud. I also know from my own experience with chronic health issues that sometimes life takes turns we never expected. It can be exhausting, scary, frustrating, and lonely. That experience, along with my work as a therapist, has shaped the way I connect with people going through anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, health challenges, and major life transitions. Therapy with me isn’t about having all the answers or saying all the right things. We’ll start wherever you are, figure things out together, and probably even laugh sometimes along the way. My hope is that you’ll feel heard, understood, encouraged, and a little less alone in whatever you’re facing. I'm here for you.
