Therapists for college students near New York, NY
You're smart. You've always figured things out. So why does it feel like your emotions are the one thing you can't get a handle on? Maybe you've got the grades, the group chat, the schedule packed with things you're "supposed" to want... and still find yourself lying in bed at 2am wondering why everything feels so heavy. That's actually exactly the kind of thing I work on with you in therapy. I'm Mallory Grimste, LCSW, a therapist based in Branford, CT who specializes in working with teens, college students, and young adults who are emotionally overwhelmed and high-achieving at the same time. (Yes, both. It's more common than you think.) I use a DBT-informed approach, which basically means I teach real, practical strategies- the kind you can actually use when you're about to crash out before a big exam or spiraling after a hard conversation. We can work on anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, and navigating relationships ā including the one you have with yourself. My clients don't just feel better in session. They leave treatment feeling more confident in who they are, more capable of handling the hard stuff, and genuinely proud of how far they've come. I offer telehealth sessions in Connecticut and New York, and in-person sessions in Branford, CT. If that sounds like what you've been looking for, I'd love to connect. š Learn more and apply to work together: mallorygrimste.com/counseling-services

Hello! I'm so glad you're taking this step for your mental health. I went to the therapy for the first time while attending college (at USC too!), and it was pivotal for me. I really value working with college students, and genuinely appreciate how much you have to do deal with. Maybe you're struggling with transitions - adjusting to the start of college, or facing the daunting landscape post-graduation. Maybe you can feel all the pressures mounting to the point where you feel paralyzed and burnt out and confused. Maybe you'd like for just one thing - anything - to be taken off your plate, or for the load to be shared somehow. Maybe you're even trying to figure yourself out beyond the story that's been your life so far. I'd like to help make things seem clearer, or kinder, or safer, and I think we can do it together. I offer 45-minute sessions, as well as longer 90-minute sessions, to fit what you might need best. I also offer letters for medical transition, disability, ESA, and can complete return to school forms.
Whether you're burdened by anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, identity questions, transitions, or physical pain linked to stress or emotions, therapy can bring relief. I offer a compassionate space where you can slow down, be seen and heard, and reconnect with yourself and what you aspire for your life. I often use Internal Family Systems to help heal painful parts and foster self-compassion and inner harmony, and Somatic Experiencing to help regulate your nervous system and heal trauma. I also offer somatic movement therapy for those interested in deeper mind/body connection. I tailor my approach based on your needs. I have helped a wide range of people in a variety of situations over more than 20 years as a licensed clinical social worker. I strive to be an ally to people of color and to be culturally responsive. I work collaboratively and without judgment. I consider it a privilege to help you find joy and make the most of that which is in your control.
