Therapists for college students near New York, NY
As a Creative Arts Psychotherapist and Drama Therapist, I interweave creative expressive techniques along with traditional talk therapy to support you in releasing old patterns and habits, identify places you feel stuck, and move towards a place of self acceptance, healing, and growth. My role as therapist includes being a guide and support on your unique journey, utilizing both creative expression and talk therapy depending on your needs and level of comfort. I believe that real change happens when we connect mind and body, allowing us to explore places that hold us back, and reconnect with ourselves to live a more full and joyful life. I work primarily with adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, self esteem issues, and learning differences.
Zion Counseling Center LLC, highlighting Christian Psychotherapy. We are dedicated to helping adult men, women, and couples navigate life's challenges and achieve their full potential. We offer proudly services in English, Spanish, Creole, Portuguese, & Korean.
My practice focuses on helping people who want to get to know themselves better and change repetitive life patterns to improve their personal and academic lives. Many of the students, faculty, and administrators I work with have had anxiety, ADHD, or a history of trauma or loss that they need help working through in order to achieve at their optimal level and enjoy life more. I try to create a peaceful office environment in which to explore yourself and learn techniques for managing life better, inside and out. I believe the therapy relationship itself is important to experience so that you can connect with yourself in a different way. Growth comes from curiosity and freedom to express yourself in an empathetic, engaging, and knowledgeable setting. I invite you to visit my website for more detailed information.

Trauma and the destabilizing events of our lives can impact our ability to grow no matter when or how they happen. We can find ourselves in harmful or unmanageable cycles that persist. By creating a safe space to creatively experiment in therapy you can provide yourself with the means and intention to grow. As a Clinician I have worked with clients experiencing addiction, the impact of trauma, and family dysfunction. Perhaps these challenges have led to unhealthy behaviors that don't fit who you are and what you need anymore. Or that you have reached many of your goals but realize the cost has been an internal battle that persists. I am passionate about partnering with my clients to create that safe space and have been inspired by witnessing what happens when it is created. Using a trauma informed lens I offer concrete tools for growth for those experiencing acute symptoms and mindfully move folks into deeper and more intimate somatic and creative interventions when ready.

TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. I am a licensed clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with over 20 years of clinical experience. My approach to therapy is collaborative, and geared toward reaching a better understanding of the relationship between your emotions, behaviors, and experiences. I see the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for exploration and growth through fostering a safe space, where you're able to freely express your thoughts and feelings. This process allows for a deeper understanding of the dynamics that may be influencing your current difficulties. In addition to my other clinical expertise, I am also trained in psychosomatic psychoanalysis, and have experience working with individuals who present with physical symptoms and illnesses. I address the complex interplay between psychological and somatic factors, and provide a comprehensive approach that considers the unique needs of my patients. If you're seeking a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic experience that can help you gain insight and navigate personal challenges, I'm here to support you. My consulting room is welcoming to anyone who wants to come for therapy, irrespective of their sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, culture or gender.

Caryn (she/they) is a queer, nonbinary therapist who specializes in helping clients navigate anxiety, OCD, and sexual trauma (often the intersection of all three). Using approaches that honor the mind-body connection—such as psychosomatic therapy, IFS, and ERP—Caryn gently pushes clients to change unhelpful patterns and heal longstanding wounds. As an individual and couples’ therapist, Caryn creates a space in which clients can safely engage with the scary stuff without letting it overwhelm them. At the core of their practice is the belief that pleasure is a human right, and they are here to guide clients toward the joy that they deserve. I might be the right therapist for you if… You want to work with someone who Gets It: who understands the nuance of gender and sexuality, who understands your cultural references, and who sees the value in humor as a coping mechanism (aka, I’ll laugh at your jokes!) You want to stop intellectualizing your emotions and actually feel them (or, perhaps, feel them a little less intensely all the time) You keep getting caught in cycles of obsession and/or rumination and don’t know how to stop them or what they mean You want a therapist who is knowledgeable about and affirming of sex work, kink, polyamory, queer folks, neurodiversity, and fat liberation, among others
