You don’t need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. You may only know that something feels difficult, that a familiar way of coping is no longer working, or that you want your life or relationships to feel different. In therapy, we work together to understand the thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, and experiences shaping your struggles. As a therapist, I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and major life transitions. I'll help you build practical coping and emotional regulation skills, approach yourself with greater self-compassion, clarify your values, and respond to challenges with more flexibility and intention. The goal is to strengthen self-trust and create changes that feel meaningful, realistic, and sustainable. I believe meaningful change becomes possible when you feel understood enough to be honest and supported enough to try something new, and my role is to be that steady, compassionate, and active partner as you make sense of what you're carrying and recognize the patterns shaping your choices. We can begin where you are and work toward greater clarity, emotional steadiness, and meaningful change in everyday life. Working with me is warm, collaborative, and active. I create space for you to feel heard while also helping you look honestly at patterns that may be contributing to your distress. In our sessions, I ask thoughtful and sometimes direct questions, offer practical tools, and gently challenge avoidance, self-criticism, black-and-white thinking, or familiar responses that are no longer serving you. Together, we slow down reactions, explore what lies beneath them, and distinguish productive problem-solving from worry or rumination. My approach balances insight with action: we build emotional awareness, strengthen coping and regulation skills, clarify your needs and values, and practice more flexible ways of responding. The goal is not perfection, but greater self-trust and meaningful change. My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by more than two decades of experience across countries, careers, cultures, and life roles. Before entering the mental health field, I worked as a lawyer, filmmaker, nonprofit leader, and mother. Moving through these different identities gave me a deep appreciation for how complex and nonlinear life can be, especially when a relationship, career, identity, or familiar way of living begins to change. These experiences strengthened my commitment to compassionate, culturally responsive care grounded in the realities of each person's life. I bring curiosity, steadiness, and respect for the many parts of each patient's story to my practice now, along with an appreciation for the courage it takes to question familiar patterns and begin again. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, writing, and exploring how stories help us understand ourselves and one another. I also value time with my family, which helps me slow down, remain curious, and stay connected to what matters most.

Meadow Therapy
Inclusive Psychotherapy in New York for Adolescents, Adults, and Couples/Relationships You worry all the time about being judged by other people. You feel disconnected from your body and, at the same time, feel like it’s all you think about. You question what you say, how your body looks, if you’re doing things “right,” and there are so many times when your mind feels like it’s on a hamster wheel that you can’t stop. You’re on edge all day and sometimes feel like you may be having a heart attack. You don’t feel like you fit in anywhere. You’ve been made fun of for many different parts of who you are. You’ve been called weird or misunderstood at work, in your family, and even in some of your dating relationships. You’ve struggled to find someone who feels like a good fit romantically, and you’re worried there’s something wrong with you. From the start, we want you to know that at Meadow Therapy, we believe you have inherent worth simply by being born. Throughout your life, you’ve learned tools for survival that may no longer feel like they serve you. We can help you shift those survival skills using Mind to Body Psychotherapy. Mind to Body Psychotherapy is a mix of body-based work, exploration of childhood hurts, the neuroscience of emotions/emotional regulation, and other concrete coping skills, that will help you tap into your inner resources. You already have many creative tools you’ve used for survival. One of our goals is to help you move out of survival mode into having a thriving and fulfilling life. We offer inclusive therapy for adolescents and adults, couples therapy, and group therapy. Using Mind-to-Body Psychotherapy, we can help quiet your harsh thoughts, soothe your racing heart, and calm your body. We specialize in working with trauma survivors, LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Trans and Gender-Nonconforming, Self-Harming, Addicted, fat/larger-bodied, disabled, kink/BDSM, and polyamorous people. We see you as the flora and fauna that come together harmoniously in the meadow. Email us for a FREE consultation - info@meadowtherapy.com

Rachel Wolk
Hi! I’m Rachel Wolk (she/her), a neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist. I’m passionate about supporting folks through anxiety, complex trauma, Autism, and ADHD. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Social Work from Columbia University, where I specialized in Advanced Clinical Practice. I'm also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed, relationship-based work. I often integrate sensory and somatic interventions, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Coherence Therapy to support the mind-body-environment connection. I believe in honoring each person’s unique nervous system and lived experience, and I strive to create a space where all parts of you feel seen and supported. While I do offer in-person sessions, we’ll likely meet virtually to better accommodate the flexibility needed for a college schedule. That said, I’m always open to making exceptions on a case-by-case basis if in-person sessions feel essential to creating a safe and secure therapeutic space for you. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email, I'm happy to set up a free 15-minute consultation call!
Shannon Dressler, LCSW
I’ve spent 25 years working in schools as a therapist which provided me knowledge of the adolescent and young adult experience and challenges around the academic pressures. I am trained in multiple interventions from AEDP/IFS/AF-EMDR which allows me to provide support around anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and trauma.
Juliet Spier Therapy
My therapeutic work tends to resonate with people who have spent a long time thinking their way through distress and are ready for something that goes deeper. I tend to work well with people who are struggling with a persistent sense of loneliness or feeling misunderstood, and who need therapy to be able to hold complex layers of experience. Many are navigating a queer, trans, or neurodivergent experience that doesn't fit easily into any category, struggling with nuanced questions about relationships and sexuality, or bearing the weight of repeated traumas, anxiety, and depression.
Maria Robertson
I’m a humanistic therapist who enjoys working with people of all backgrounds, with a particular focus on youth, young adults, and BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals. Together, we address depression and anxiety, explore and discuss intersectionality, and navigate moves in careers, education, employment, and relationships. I strongly believe in the professional values of social justice, the importance of human relationships, and honoring the dignity, self-worth, and autonomy of every person. As a person with a spiritual compass, I believe my faith is lived out through the work that I do, and am at my best when there’s collaboration, open communication, and a willingness to trust the process. I look forward to serving you with unconditional positive regard and humor in our work together. As a clinician with an eclectic style, I draw on training in attachment theory, family systems, modern psychoanalytic theory, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and person-centered psychotherapy to help a variety of populations, particularly first-generation, immigrant, college, and career professionals. My goal is to guide you in identifying your needs and goals as you navigate stressors, trauma, and other challenges through a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach. I'm especially passionate about helping you understand your own strengths and weaknesses. Using methods such as CBT, we can reframe past events or choices to help shape how you navigate future challenges in ways that are empowering and that manifest your own sense of self-efficacy. This approach centers on traditional talk therapy, using Socratic questioning, reflection, summarizing, and mirroring, along with activities or exercises relevant to your presenting concerns, tools that help you conceptualize where you are and where you strive to get to in your healing and mental health journey. My path to becoming a therapist began more than 15 years ago, rooted in a lifelong interest in learning about people and the way we, as humans, think, act, and feel about the events in our lives. Working as an immigration paralegal set the foundation for empathy, patience, and an understanding of how systems function and how the people caught within them are affected by forces beyond their control. Meanwhile, my time in higher education gave me the opportunity to provide academic guidance to students, while also serving as a sounding board and someone they could trust with their stories of struggle and perseverance. I love spending time with family and friends, traveling to warm and tropical destinations, enjoying brain-teasers like puzzles and trivia, and exploring good food as a self-proclaimed foodie. Above all, I have a passion for all kinds of sports — watching, cheering, and sometimes playing.

Welcome. I am a Rochester-based psychologist providing individual psychotherapy to adults throughout New York State. My work is based on the belief that having a supportive space in which to process our experiences can be incredibly therapeutic. I also believe that developing self-awareness is an essential piece of effectively navigating our lives. I may be the right therapist for you if you are interested in learning more about how you cope with distress, respond to challenges, relate to yourself, or approach your interactions with others. I see a wide range of adults in my practice, and typically work with concerns related to anxiety, depression, adjustments, identity, and relationships. In addition to my general practice, I also have interests that include working with men as well as students (both graduate and undergraduate) in psychotherapy. You can learn more about me and my practice by visiting my website. If you feel that we may be a good fit, please email me to inquire about a free phone consultation. While finding a therapist can be difficult, connecting with the right person can ultimately lead to a meaningful experience. I wish you the best in your search.

Melissa Bennett-Heinz
I practice via telehealth in NY, NC, WA, and TX. I specialize in working with adult men and women who may look fine on the outside, but inside you're struggling to get your own needs met, self-doubt, perfectionism, and shame. Gestalt Therapy goes beyond looking only at the cognitive, linear perspective of the person. It demands of the therapist an awareness of the body and how it manifests in the psyche. Through its focus on process rather than content, the patient gains an experiential awareness of how they do what they do and new choices emerge spontaneously. The radical focus on process in Gestalt creative therapy keeps the work alive and full of possibility for both the patient and for my work as a therapist. Melissa Bennett-Heinz obtained her master’s degree in clinical social work from Columbia University (Class of 2002) and is a graduate of Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy in New York City, NY. In addition to her background in Gestalt Therapy, she obtained her bachelor's and master’s degrees from the esteemed conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, in New York City, where she majored in Oboe Performance. Melissa completed cognitive behavioral studies under the tutelage of Dr. William Sanderson. She is a licensed clinical social worker in NY, WA, NC, and TX and has over twenty years of specialized training and experience in PTSD, childhood abuse, mood and anxiety disorders. Melissa brings her background as a classical musician and deep spirituality together in her unique approach in Gestalt's creative and experiential therapy.
Charlotte Hutzler
With curiosity, compassion, and openness, I approach therapy as a supportive and collaborative partner to my patients, who include children, adolescents, and adults. My specialties as a psychotherapist focus on trauma, self-esteem and identity concerns, difficult emotions, family stress, and periods of significant change. Together, we help you create a stronger sense of self, make sense of your experiences, develop healthier coping strategies, and navigate relationships and life changes with greater confidence and self-understanding. I look forward to building a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to explore your experiences and work toward the changes that matter most to you. I believe people are capable of meaningful change when they feel supported rather than judged and, therefore, the therapeutic process should be shaped around each person's individual needs, strengths, and goals. That’s why I bring a warm, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach to care, as I'm passionate about making therapy a collaborative process where you feel safe to be honest, explore difficult experiences, and better understand yourself. You can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where you feel comfortable being yourself, with a style that's collaborative, compassionate, and tailored to your unique needs, experiences, and goals. Through evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-focused interventions, and psychodynamic therapy, I help you better understand your emotions and experiences, develop practical coping skills, strengthen relationships, and work toward meaningful change. Therapy should meet you where you are rather than asking you to fit into a particular framework, so I shape our work around what feels most helpful and meaningful to you. I didn’t initially intend to become a therapist; I was invested in pursuing psychological research, but a serendipitous scheduling issue with an undergraduate placement moved me from research assistant to intake counselor, and I found myself deeply invested in the stories I heard and equally rewarded by the support I was able to provide in crucial moments. That experience led me to pivot my career aspirations, and I have since pursued clinical work across a variety of populations and modalities. All of this work has deepened my commitment to providing warm, collaborative care centered on the patient and how their unique experiences in life have shaped their perspectives and understanding of the world. In my free time, I like baking for the people in my life (I'm a big fan of pie), along with reading, painting, and photography. I'm also a long-suffering fan of the Philadelphia Flyers.

I believe that all of us have had some challenges in our lives whether that translates to bigger traumas or smaller hardships. As a result of our challenges, we have beliefs about who we are and our place in the world. I use evidence-based practices including EMDR to identify and manage triggers that may manifest in fear, anxiety, and negative beliefs about who we are and what we deserve. Let me help you break free from your People-Pleasing, Perfectionist, and/or Procrastinating tendencies and find peace with being your authentic self.

As a licensed marriage and family therapist with four years of experience, my work centers on helping individuals and couples in early to mid-life find their footing when it comes to dating, communication, family dynamics, work-life balance, and self-identity. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, working through relationship difficulties, or simply trying to feel more like yourself, you deserve a therapist who shows up as a genuine partner in that process. Authentic connection is at the heart of everything I do. You can expect a collaborative, accepting presence as we do this work together. I look forward to growing alongside you. Relationships are at the center of my practice, including the most important one you have: your relationship with yourself. From there, my approach is direct, collaborative, and individualized to your specific needs. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I draw on person-centered and acceptance-based techniques, tailoring each session to your unique life experience so that our work together always feels relevant to you. That tailoring extends to the environment we create as well. Sessions are open, accepting, and nonjudgmental by design, a space where you can show up as you are. My style is gentle and forthright, as forming therapeutic relationships that help people become more authentically themselves is something I'm deeply passionate about. Together, we'll work toward helping you more genuinely know yourself and the people in your life. My path to becoming a therapist began as a teenager hungry for a sense of meaning in my life. This hunger brought me to study philosophy and then psychology as an undergraduate. I slowly realized that rather than being individualized, identity and meaning are things that are built up between people: through our relationships to friends, romantic partners, family, colleagues, or anyone else. This experience deepened my commitment to building the sorts of relationships in which identity and meaning are strengthened and nurtured -- like the relationships built in therapy. I bring this emphasis on genuine, human connection to each session. When I'm not in session, you might find me at an archery range, out for a run, or deep in a book on history, philosophy, biology, or psychology. Kurt Vonnegut and a good ghost story are always welcome on the nightstand! Drawing, video games, and Magic: The Gathering round out the mix, along with plenty of walks and playtime with my dog.

The Grief & Bereavement Club is the worst club ever, and we all join it eventually – but it doesn't have to be the loss of a loved one that brings us there. My interest is in working with anyone going through a major life change or loss. Whether it's the loss of a person, a pet, a home, or a job, I want to work with you to learn how to live in this new reality of your life. I'm a therapist specializing in grief counseling for those experiencing loss of any kind, be it a loved one, a relationship, a profession, a home, a sense of self, or a terminal illness. Whatever brought you to therapy, I don't care. I'm just glad you're here. I'm honored to be part of your journey, whatever you wish to work on. My goal as a therapist is to help you navigate whatever has brought us together. For those experiencing grief or facing the end of life, we may draw on approaches like Meaning Making, Dignity Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and even Play Therapy. No matter the modality, we’ll look at therapy as a collaborative exercise, and work together to find what you respond to. We'll approach your journey from session to session. Some weeks you may need structure, other times you may just need to be in the moment with someone who listens. We're going to roll with it together, and you can expect some levity along the way. There are so many serious things that bring people to this room; sometimes a little laughter makes all the difference. Before becoming a therapist, I volunteered at domestic abuse emergency shelters and worked as a padded instructor for women's self-defense companies. After a series of personal losses, I found I had gained fluency in the language of grief, and felt called to be of service to those experiencing their own. I've been a martial artist since I was five years old, with belts in Krav Maga, Tang Soo Do, and Eskrima. You'll often find me on the subway reading my book of the month, usually on the way to a theater, a convention, or a renaissance fair.

My work now is solely private practice, assisting clients through difficult life obstacles in a safe supportive environment.
