Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
I believe in meeting you exactly where you are. Guided by a commitment to collaboration, I seek to walk beside clients as they forge and discover their own path towards healing. My goal in therapy is to be fully present with clients as we explore their emotions, experiences, truths, hopes, challenges, and strengths, with the aim of helping folks build a life they truly desire. I seek to hold intentional space for processing intersecting experiences of oppression and privilege that impact clients’ lives. Whether facing challenges at school, in family or elsewhere in community, I work with clients to weave, unweave, and reweave the ways they hold their past, create presence in their present, and construct achievable goals for the future. It is my delight and priority to support clients in reconnecting with joy, strength, internal and communal power, as well as their role in individual and joint liberation. Some approaches to therapy that we could use together include but are not limited to: Anti-Oppression & Liberation Frameworks, Creative Arts & Play-Based Therapies, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness & Somatic Based Therapies, Narrative Therapy, Parts Work (influenced by elements of Internal Family Systems and Trauma-Informed Stabilization Therapy), and Person-Centered & Strengths-Based approaches. Some areas in which I have experience supporting individuals includes but is not limited to Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, etc.), Complex Trauma, and Identity.
We are a diverse collective of queer, trans, cis, anti-racist healers, makers, bodyworkers, change makers, counselors, artists, social workers, physicians, musicians, energy workers, clinical and counseling psychologists, activists, caregivers, justice seekers, peacemakers, movement guides, yogis, workers, dream weavers, trouble makers and scholars. We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of each person and offer sliding scale services based on an economic justice model of financial privilege. to that end, we challenge white supremacy, capitalism, ableism and all systems of oppression to make our programs and services more affordable and accessible to poor and working class people and people of color. We affirm that all individuals are the experts of their own experiences and choices and are committed to providing trans-informed care and support trans folx in their gender self determination using an informed consent model of care. We believe that individual wellness contributes to social justice and social justice contributes to individual wellness and that radical inclusion must involve radical transformation. We understand that through the pursuit of justice, equity, healing and reconciliation we may cultivate healthier societies and foster relationships with self and community liberated from violence and oppression. In our efforts to ensure ongoing, successful collaboration with the LGBTQueer+, People of Color and people of all identities, we commit to regular, ongoing trainings, consultation and are active agents of change and advocacy in our communities. Hi! My name is Tyania (ty-an-nuh) and I am a Black, queer, cisgender licensed therapist (LCMHCA) offering individual therapy at Healing Arts Collaborative in Durham, NC. My approach is rooted in the idea that profound healing occurs in the context of relationships. Our lives are dictated by the relationships that we do or don’t have, and a large part of how we discover ourselves is through reflection and feedback - being seen and understood by another. Being your authentic self can be challenging for many reasons, which is why I strive to make our time together a place of refuge where you can be your true self (or have the space to figure out who your true self is). You can find more information about me and Healing Arts using the below link to our website. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Therapy is worth it and so are you! While life can be amazing, there is no doubt at times we will experience hardships. However, you do not have to navigate these struggles by yourself. By emphasizing collaboration, resiliency, optimism, and empowerment, I aim to equip my clients with the tools and resources needed to assist them in revamping and creating the life they are striving to live. I work with all genders, sexual orientations, races, and cultures & welcome clients as they are. I am trained in mindfulness, yoga, and trauma-informed care. I have experience working with adults, teenagers, & children. As a therapist, I encourage clients to be authentic and challenge their negative thinking while reminding them they are capable and amazing. If we do end up working together, prepare to be heard, encouraged, laugh, and most importantly, work to build the life you envision for yourself! If you think we could be a good fit for each other I invite you to schedule your phone consultation today. Let’s work!
Lifeologie Counseling works with a very diverse set of clientele that experience a multitude of mental health and life issues. Lifeologie's Durham practice is located about 15 minutes from North Carolina Central University's campus and has worked closely with many students and faculty from the school. While working in close connection with colleges across NC, Lifeologie has had the opportunity to help counsel and connect with undergraduate, graduate, transfer, first generation, and many other types of students. Learning from and understanding the various cultures and subcultures existing within these schools/populations has allowed for further knowledge and experience of Lifeologie counselors. The mission of OCC is to provide unparalleled mental health counseling services to individuals and families, helping them to overcome psychological and social barriers preventing them from achieving their best possible life. The client and counselor working towards a common goal of achieving wellness. Trust is the foundation of a healthy counseling relationship. Clients’ feelings are explored through the use of empathic listening, unconditional positive regard, genuineness, and autonomy.
I view therapy as a unique, dynamic space between two people where an alliance is being formed. Clients often come my way frustrated by not being heard by health providers or mental health therapists who lack empathy, understanding, or who come off as judgmental. My job is to meet you in a place where you can feel deeply seen, heard, and understood.
I can help you change unhelpful behaviors and thought patterns such as catastrophizing and self criticism, develop resilience and self care to manage stress, and create healthier and happier relationships. I take a holistic, mind body approach which includes developing lifestyle habits to help you feel your best emotionally and physically. I recognize that most of the work of therapy happens outside of our sessions so I frequently make suggestions for things to work on in between our meetings. My approach is influenced by CBT, Attachment Theory, Positive Psychology, Psychodynamic Theory, and Mindfulness, and trauma informed. I enjoy working with students and professionals and welcome clients of all background and identities into my practice. You can visit my website for more information.
I work predominantly with students who are navigating the change of college, interpersonal dynamics, anxiety, depression, and personality disorders. I hope that through our work together, we can find ways to help you thrive and reach your goals.
Big changes have a way of shaking loose questions you thought you had already answered-about who you are, where you belong, and who you want to be. You don’t have to figure it all out alone. I work with students and young adults who are navigating these in-between phases that can be confusing and overwhelming.
Whatever brought you to consider therapy, know that you are not alone. Many of us struggle to manage intense emotions, connect deeply with others, meet our goals, live up to our expectations, accept ourselves, or find meaning in life. In a safe and supportive space you are free to express yourself openly, honestly, and authentically, and together we can work to discover the ways you would like your life to be different. The approach we take to implement those changes will be guided by your personality, culture, and needs. Through developing mental, emotional, and physical self-awareness, my clients build skills that enable them to handle painful thoughts, emotions, and experiences in more adaptive ways, They steadily shedding ways of relating with the world and themselves that are harmful, unsustainable, or no longer serving them, creating space to bring their values to life. I find mindfulness and nurturing the mind-body connection to be powerful tools in accessing our natural healing abilities. Overcoming a number of my own mental health struggles in the past has yielded a wealth of compassion and empathy for the clients I see today, as well as faith in their abilities to heal, grow, and build a life worth living.
