Therapists for college students near Duke University
Seeking therapy is a courageous act of self-care and self-discovery. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or weighed down by past wounds, unwanted thoughts, identity questions, relationship challenges, or the pressures of modern life—including the impact of technology, social media, and AI—you are not alone. I offer an affirming space to explore queerness, neurodivergence, multicultural identity, intergenerational pressures, and systems that weren’t built with you in mind. I am here to walk alongside you with compassion, warmth, and deep respect for who you are and where you come from. Together, we’ll uncover the patterns shaping your experiences, clarify what matters most to you, and develop strategies tailored to your needs. My goal is to support you in reclaiming your story, honoring your complexity, and building a life that feels authentic, sustainable, and whole. If this resonates, please reach out via email, call, or text to schedule your complimentary 15-minute consultation—available both in person and virtually. When you get in touch, kindly include your name, contact information, and a few dates and times that work best for you. I look forward to being a part of your journey.
I see therapy as a collaborative effort between myself and my clients. As a queer black woman, my goal is to provide space for those like me and others who have felt silenced and marginalized a majority of their lives. I have a passion for working with women of color and LGBTQIA+ identifying folks. If you find yourself experiencing things like depression and anxiety, or low self-esteem/self-concept, I may be a good fit for you. I have past experience working with clients on things like life adjustments (moving, end of a relationship, career change, etc.), grief and loss, day-to-day stressors, and relationship concerns - romantic, platonic, familial, and professional.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck in a stress cycle of worry, sadness, or loneliness, you are not alone! These emotions can be natural responses to life circumstances. Sometimes it seems as though you can’t find your way out of these feelings. As a licensed clinical social worker, I am ready to join with you and offer support. Together we can identify your personal challenges, build upon your unique strengths, and develop healthier life patterns. Therapy offers the opportunity to work toward becoming unstuck. I have over 15 years of clinical experience. My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, chronic illness and LGBTQIA+. My approach draws from relational, family systems, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapies. I strive to provide a safe space where you can show up as your authentic self and feel heard, valued, and respected. I primarily meet via telehealth, with limited in-person availability. Give me a call to see if we are a good fit!
We believe that while pain is unavoidable in life, suffering is not. Everyone suffers in different ways and for different reasons. Suffering that comes as a result of trauma or mental illnesses can be changed. There is relief. We can help you find that relief. We have extensive experience working with individuals struggling with a wide range of disorders including depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD, and personality disorders. Our experience also includes work with high-risk behaviors, including substance abuse, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just plain down? It's okay to not be okay. Many college students experience mental health challenges, and you're not alone. Our counseling services are here to help you navigate these tough times. We offer a safe and confidential space where you can talk about your feelings, learn coping strategies, and find support.
“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle” -Alice in Wonderland As humans, we often carry complex emotions around with us as we move through life. That can be exhausting, especially when you haven’t had the time or space to fully process what you’re feeling, what you’ve been through, and how those experiences impact your life today. My hope is that therapy with me can be a place where you can find some reprieve from life's stressors, make sense of your experiences, and regain a sense of control. I enjoy working with folks who are navigating trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, life changes, and interpersonal challenges. My background in social work influences how I approach therapy, including how identity, relationships, environment, and larger systems can impact overall well-being. In my practice, I tend to use an integrative approach, drawing from CBT, DBT, ACT, and motivational interviewing, while incorporating psychoeducation and strengths-focused interventions. In addition to these modalities, it’s important to me that our working relationship is built on trust, care, and mutual respect, so we can work together to figure out what works best for you. Being a pet parent of three rescue rabbits and a bearded dragon, I’m drawn to animals who are often misunderstood, have complex needs, and need patience and trust before they feel safe opening up. That experience has deepened my appreciation for patience, curiosity, and meeting others where they are. I especially enjoy working with folks who may feel “different” or “too much”. I’m here to help you better understand your patterns and explore your goals, understanding that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing. If you think we might be a good fit, feel free to reach out!
When we can sit with our feelings and examine our thoughts we have an increased ability to understand our decisions and behaviors as well as the choices that are available to us. We utilize a non judgmental and warm approach to fully understand where clients are in their journey. We believe our clients present us with an enormous gift by sharing their vulnerabilities and strengths; we take therapy seriously and hope that each session is productive and our clients leave with a broader understanding of themselves and what they can do in the moment to feel better. We openly welcome clients of color, immigrants, queer and trans* clients, and clients of all genders. We provide individual counseling to help each person identify their own strengths and contributions to creating a life worth living. We have many years of experience providing trauma focused work, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and internal family systems therapy. We are comfortable treating a number of diagnoses, histories, and symptoms, including, but not limited to: life adjustments, trauma, sexual abuse, adoption issues, attachment disruptions, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, difficulties with emotion regulation, issues of over control, self harming behaviors, and suicidal ideation.

I graduated with a Masters in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I had the great fortune to complete my field hours at UNC Psychiatry, where I offered therapy for conditions including depression, anxiety, disability, chronic pain, developmental delay, and addiction. Before I became a psychotherapist, I earned a Masters of Science in Education from Florida State University and taught in the public school system. Positive psychology is at the core of our practice, helping to elevate you beyond the neutral state and launch you into your ideal life. I specialize in helping you identify your emotions, recognize behavior patterns and the motivations behind them, then incorporating techniques to support behavior change that align with your values, carefully guiding you to become the person you strive to be.
If you've been carrying the weight of anxiety or depression, feeling stuck in patterns you can't seem to break, or wondering if anyone truly understands what you're going through, you're in the right place. You don't have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. My goal is to create a space where you can show up exactly as you are—without judgment, pressure, or the expectation that you must "have it all together." I believe therapy works best when it feels like a genuine relationship. I'll meet you with curiosity, honesty, and compassion while also helping you challenge the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we'll work to understand what has shaped your experiences, build practical skills to help you navigate life's challenges, and create meaningful changes that aligns with the life you want to live. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, everyday stress, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, neurodivergence, psychosis, and major life transitions. I'm especially passionate about supporting people who have felt overlooked, misunderstood, or like they have had to carry everything on their own. Whether you're a teen (or parent of one) trying to find your place, a young adult navigating life’s uncertainty, or someone who has spent years putting others before yourself, I want you to know you don't have to face it alone. My approach is collaborative, person-centered, and grounded in your strengths. I draw from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), tailoring each session to your unique goals, values, and experiences. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, we'll work together to find what genuinely helps you move forward. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from North Carolina State University and my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I'm a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHC-A) with extensive training in DBT and CBT. Reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, and taking that first step is often the hardest part. If you're looking for someone who will listen, challenge you when it's helpful, celebrate your progress, and walk alongside you through life's ups and downs, I'd be honored to be part of your journey. I hope you'll reach out so we can see if we're a good fit.
That fake smile is exhausting, and you’re sick of pretending that everything’s fine. On the surface, it seems like you have it all together. But all too often, you’re counting the hours until you get to pull the covers back over your head. I’ve been there, and I get it. You might be coming to therapy because of anxiety, burnout, relationship strain, or a persistent feeling of working incredibly hard just to stay afloat. Or, you may be watching yourself engage in the same behaviors over and over again...even though you know you are digging yourself into a deeper hole. As a licensed psychologist, I am most known for my work in weight management and health psychology over the last 18 years, including my former role as the CEO of a small behavioral health hospital. While weight and eating concerns may bring my clients in, our work focuses on the deeper emotional and relational patterns driving those struggles. If you are looking for a practical, no-nonsense approach to therapy, we could be a fit. Although some of my clients have been with me for years (there are always new layers to uncover), my goal is to give you the confidence to continue independently once you’re taking more of those steps on your own. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it is an honor and privilege to walk alongside others. Through my counseling, I purpose to empower individuals to chose the path that leads to healing, wholeness, hope and renewal. I believe growth and healing are established in an atmosphere of acceptance, validation, mutual respect and psychological safety. Healing and wholeness is a journey requiring courage, intentionality and a willingness to embrace change. Connection and compassion are vital in a counseling experience. When we treat ourselves with kindness and understanding, we will be able to connect with others in a similar way. We will look at your life holistically: emotional, spiritual, physical, mental and relational. I offer a free 30-minute phone consultation to discover if we are a good match.
As you prepare to address problem areas in your life, finding the right person to work with to help and support you as you move forward toward your goals, is the first step. My therapy practice focuses primarily on children, families and young adults. I believe that better communication and understanding can be key in building better relationships. Typical sessions involve the basics of support, and building on the existing strengths of a person as well as developing better techniques in managing difficult emotional problems. Psychoeducation, which involves helping to understand the mental health symptoms that are being presented and learning how to manage them, as well as skills to build deficits with anger control, social interactions and stress relief, are also taught. Working together on ways to decrease difficult symptoms, such as clients providing better self care skills, building strong coping skills and having improved perspectives is essential to a healthier well being. My role as your therapist is that through the supportive and close therapeutic relationship, you will gain insight and motivation to work toward change. I am currently licensed in NC, GA and am a Certified Telehealth Practitioner in Florida. I am only able to see clients virtually in FL and NC.
