Bright View Counseling was founded in 2020 by Michael Clark-Borenstein LCMHC (Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor) with the mission of bringing a better counseling experience to the people of Charlotte, North Carolina. After struggling through the challenges we all faced in 2020 and continue to face in 2021 due to the global pandemic, therapy and counseling have become something we could all benefit from having more of. If you or your child have been struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, work or life-related stress, behavioral changes, or simply struggling to adjust to the big changes we all faced this past year, you are not alone. We’re breaking the traditional mold of talk therapy and counseling and bringing a new, brighter idea of what therapy could and should look like with our ‘Therapy With A Twist!’ approach. Our therapy approach is holistic, humanistic, and person-focused. We bring the power of the natural world into the therapeutic process. We take walks outside, participate in outdoor activities with clients, and integrate activities and games. We also get a helping paw from our office dog, Charlotte, who comes into sessions to provide a furry friend to hug, pet, and receive emotional support from. We’ve adopted all of these practices to continue to work with teletherapy as well. We take virtual walks, have outdoor virtual sessions, and have even participated in virtual fishing! Our outlook on the client-therapist relationship differs from other counseling services. At Bright View Counseling, we forge a trusting relationship with clients. Therapy can be an intimidating process for new clients. We strive to create a casual, comfortable environment where our clients can feel safe and free to express themselves honestly and openly without fear of judgment.
Our areas of expertise include parenting challenges, attention and focus difficulties (including ADHD), anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, couples and marriage counseling, and issues related to retirement and life transitions. We take a goal-oriented, solution-focused approach, working collaboratively with clients to develop practical strategies that foster growth and well-being.
Hi, I’m Amy (she/her). I work with people navigating life transitions, relationship stress, grief, self-esteem challenges, identity exploration, anxiety, and depression. If you’re here, I imagine you might be experiencing some of this yourself—perhaps feeling isolated, longing to make sense of what you’re going through. Together, we’ll uncover patterns and create clarity so you can better understand yourself and your needs. I'm committed to honoring your unique way of being in the world, supporting you as you reconnect with your inner wisdom and pursue meaningful change. I take a person-centered approach to counseling, which means that I strive to create a warm, nonjudgmental therapeutic space. I also integrate Expressive Arts therapy techniques when clinically appropriate, including visual art, writing, mindfulness, and body-integrated approaches. I'm an LGBTQIA+ and neurodiversity affirming counselor. I know how vulnerable it can be to let someone into your healing process, to trust that your experiences will be held with compassion and care. As someone who has walked my own healing path, I deeply understand this. Please reach out for a free 15-minute consultation to connect and learn more about how we might work together.

Please, don't hesitate to request a consultation meeting over phone or video. I'm happy to answer any questions to assist you in discovering if we may be a good fit in working together. Over the past 9 years, I have worked closely with adolescents, adults, and families while facing many of life's challenges as well as struggles with mental health. I have spent a significant time enhancing my education and experience supporting folks with recovery from trauma in all its forms, stress and anxiety, as well as mood disturbances, emotional distress, and depression. Additionally, I compassionately support people navigating troublesome experiences with substance misuse. My clients and I often focus on developing a trusting relationship that emphasizes open, honest communication within a non-judgmental, laid back environment. Together we identify the areas of growth and healing that best suit their unique needs and work collaboratively to recognize personal strengths, build skills and knowledge, and foster a strong support network. Lindsey is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA License #A20671) in North Carolina as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC Certification #1735054). She received two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Spanish Language and Literature in 2020 followed by a Master of Arts in Counseling in 2024. Currently, Lindsey is actively pursuing credentialing as a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). At the heart of Lindsey's work is a deep belief in the inherent worth, dignity, and potential of every person. She approaches therapy with the understanding that healing begins in spaces where people are truly seen, witnessed, heard, and valued. Her practice is rooted in a person-centered philosophy that honors each individual's unique story, inner wisdom, and capacity for growth. Guided by principles of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and social justice, she acknowledges the complex intersections of identity, culture, and systemic factors in mental health. Lindsey's areas of focus include trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, religious trauma/church hurt, women’s issues, self-esteem, body image, identity, life transitions, and relational conflict. She tailors her therapeutic approach to each client’s individual needs and goals, integrating elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Expressive Arts Therapy when supportive to the healing process. When working with children, Lindsey uses a Child-centered Play Therapy (CCPT) approach, creating a safe and supportive environment through which children can fully express themselves through play—their natural language. She respects and trusts in each child’s inner ability to grow and heal, and honors their pace, choices, and unique ways of making sense of the world. Outside of the counseling room, Lindsey enjoys spending time with family, entertaining her two cats, playing board games, building lego, bird-watching, reading a good book, doing something crafty, or grabbing a cup of coffee with friends. Lindsey recognizes the courage it takes to begin counseling and would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.
Do you feel like you are strapped on a roller coaster of anxiety and depression and can't get off the ride? We can feel out of control because of life changes, relationships, and significant events. We can become stuck in our own unhealthy thoughts, emotions, actions, and responses. Sometimes we hyper-focus on relationships and fixing other people. Or we may develop unhealthy patterns when using things outside of ourselves to experience immediate relief and help us cope. This may include alcohol, marijuana, pills, food, porn, exercise, gaming, social media, shopping, and gambling. You need somewhere safe to talk about the hard stuff. Every person has difficulties that feel overwhelming at some point in their lives. Being willing to ask for assistance is a courageous gift to yourself. I find it gratifying to help people struggling with anxiety and depression related to challenges in life and relationships. You are worth your own effort in becoming a healthier version of yourself! I look forward to being a part of the journey!

Getting started can be overwhelming. My goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible so we can go at your pace. I specialize in working with clients with anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and addiction. Many of my clients have tried to cope with difficult life changes by pushing their feelings away or finding short-term coping mechanisms that serve as a distraction. My role is to help people listen to and manage their emotions without feeling overwhelmed or ruled by them. Being personally in recovery from alcohol helps me understand and empathize with what you’re going through because I’ve probably been there too. I like to break down clinical approaches to collaboratively determine the best fit for each person’s unique goals. I incorporate elements of neurobiology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and schema work to help people better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their lives. If you're not sure what you're looking for yet, that's okay! Feel free to reach out to set up an introductory phone call to see if we're a good fit.
