Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
Hi and welcome! I'm so glad you are here. I approach therapy like a conversation: collaborative, with warmth, humor and honesty. I use an integrative approach that is unique to you and your needs. Together, we’ll identify the strengths already within you, explore how you relate to yourself and others, and gently challenge what no longer works for you anymore. Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent a decade working in international and US-based nonprofits, living abroad for a number of those years and engaging with people and cultures from all over the world. I also have worked within higher education in residential life and student life roles. All of these experiences were their own sort of education, helping me learn how to navigate the changes, surprises, and complexities of life. It would be my honor to sit with you as you navigate your own story.

Do you feel stuck in survival mode where anxiety, grief or trauma overwhelms your life? Together, we will build an affirming space where you can feel safe to process, explore and grow. Therapy with me is about collaboratively exploring your life and who you want to be. I believe that one of the most important things to healing is building a safe space where you can pause and catch your breath. Hello my name is Maureen, and I’m a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of psychotherapy experience, and everyone is welcome in my practice. I live in Lapeer County, Michigan and have strong ties to Detroit and surrounding area. My therapy practice is via telehealth. I’ve worked with people who have had a wide range of challenges and who needed the help of a compassionate and skilled therapist. Because of my many years of working with a very diverse population of people, I’ve been able to create a very eclectic style that I believe takes the best of each therapy model and am able to create a very tailored treatment for each person who allows me to help them on their journey. I help people to recognize and utilize their strengths and believe that people have the best answers for themselves and need to learn how to find them and use them for their continued growth. I love using interventions that combine supportive and goal directed strategies as well as focusing on the mind-body connection. My favorite form of therapy is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I’m also trained in Attachment Therapy, EMDR, CBT and many others. I’ve always invested a lot of time and energy into improving my skills for the benefit of my clients, so I frequently attend continuing education seminars and conferences. I’m an Open Path provider (for people who need to pay based on their ability to afford it). I'm also a Give an Hour provider and donate pro-bono services for our military, veterans and their families. I value the opportunity to help everyone get the therapy that they need.
Life is a journey with many twists and turns. Along the way we experience some good things and some not so good things, but all life experiences make up who we are in this very moment. Everyone deserves to be able to tell their story and to be heard. I’m here to help support my clients so they have a voice and can determine their own life direction and meaning. I primarily use tools from cognitive behavioral therapies and mindfulness in working with substance abuse, addiction, depression, anxiety, anger management, ADHD/impulse control, and life transitions. I help individuals gain a deeper understanding of how motivation, executive functioning, and overall functionality affect their daily lives. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Michigan State University in 2011, and received my Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology and Graduate Certificate in Substance Abuse and Addiction from Western Michigan University in 2015.

It doesn’t have to be so hard. We are not distant, blank faced analysts, but instead are responsive and collaborative in our approach. Together, we will untangle the knots created by anxiety, depression, trauma, family, eating, and relationship problems that leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your body, and your emotions.
I work best with students who feel like they are carrying the weight of the world—whether that comes from a history of abuse, difficult experiences with religion, or just the overwhelming pressure to keep it all together. You might feel like you have to be "on" all the time for your classes or friends, but inside, you are struggling to find solid ground. I provide a "Safe Harbor" where you can drop the act and be real. As a former firefighter, I am not afraid of the heavy stuff; I offer a judgment-free space to process trauma, anxiety, or deep questions about your faith and identity. You don't have to navigate this alone. As a Counselor in Training, I offer flexible, affordable options because I believe a tight student budget shouldn't stop you from finding peace. Let's work together to help you stop just surviving school and start actually living your life.
