I am a licensed clinical social worker with many years of experience working with adults, adolescents, children, and families. I know that change is hard and seeking support is brave. It is a privilege to be alongside you in your journey towards becoming the person you want to be and living the life you want to live. Our therapy will be a space where it is okay to show up as your authentic self and share your feelings. We will collaborate to identify and work towards the changes you want to see in your life, brainstorm ways to overcome patterns you may feel stuck in, and support you in gaining the insight needed to foster progress. I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, perfectionism, school and work stress, self-esteem, attachment, and interpersonal and family relationships. My approach aims to be relational, strength-based, and trauma-informed. I strive to bring empathy, humor, and a nonjudgmental approach to the therapy space to support you in your journey. I use an integrative, holistic approach that pulls from different therapeutic specialties that we will tailor specifically to your identified wants and needs - such as narrative therapy, family systems, mind-body connection, solution-focused, and emotion and person-centered.

Do you feel like your emotions get in the way of you achieving your goals, affect your relationships, and keep you feeling stuck? Do you feel frustrated, unable to break patterns, or move forward? Or has a new life transition impacted you greatly and you don’t know where to go from here? My focus is on helping you learn how to regulate your emotions -- to be more in control of them than they are of you. In our sessions, we'll identify patterns, better understand them, and work together to come up with a plan of how to achieve your goals. My background is in CBT, DBT, trauma, grief and loss, and perinatal mental health. It can be hard taking the first step when you're struggling, but you've already done it by being here! If you live in MA or NJ, are open to telehealth sessions, and think we may be a good match, you can learn more about me at my website. I look forward to hearing from you!

It's important to me to be someone my clients can trust to be nonjudgemental, validating, and interested in understanding them better. I hope to support clients in exploring their values and relationships; increasing feelings of self-esteem and self-efficacy; building skills to cope with distress and pain; and recovering from experiences of trauma and invalidation. I particularly enjoy working with clients who identify as highly sensitive or who experience emotional intensity.

I have 20 years of working with clients on anxiety, burnout, and overwhelm. I love building new wellness practices that are accessible and sustainable -- identifying challenges, utilizing coping skills, and creating easy self-care practices for your day. It's wonderful to see clients shift from having distress at their symptoms to feeling confident about their ability to handle what life throws at them. After 20 years of working and learning, I utilize a wide range of approaches -- the classic Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful thoughts, somatic practices like yoga, Emotional Freedom Technique, and mindfulness and breath work to help settle the body, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to get to know with caring and curiosity what is behind the triggers and automatic responses. My pronouns are she/her, and I strive to incorporate a feminist and anti-racist perspective into my work.

Needing space to figure out who you are & giving yourself permission to grow where you are planted is important. I assist individuals navigating issues concerning minority identity, immigrant values, parenting as a child of immigrants, cultural imposter syndrome, trauma, life transition and addressing mental health topics, including the associated shame and stigma. I have experience assisting numerous college & graduate students, including international students adjusting to life in the United States, particularly in demanding environments such as higher education. I am committed to assisting women who are considering pregnancy, managing fertility/ infertility issues, transitioning into motherhood, and dealing with domestic violence and sexual assault. I support adults dealing with relationship issues, career and life changes, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, as well as existential crisis. I employ Eclectic therapy, which adjusts to the individual needs of each patient based on their specific issues, treatment goals, and personal expectations and motivation. I specialize in therapeutic approach that recognizes and centers on understanding various types of traumatic experiences affecting individuals. Finding a therapist can be a challenging and overwhelming process. I enjoy working with college students, and have experience treating a wide variety of issues. These include, but are not limited to: Anxiety, depression, stress, adjustment problems, self-esteem difficulties, and family conflict. I also have a special interest and training background in PTSD and trauma-related difficulties. I am EMDR-trained. My style is warm and collaborative, and I use an individualized approach with each client. I provide a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to gain support, insight, and tools to guide you on your mental health journey. I am an ideal choice for students who go to school in Massachusetts but permanently reside in New Hampshire (or vice versa). I am licensed in both states, which means that I can meet with you when you are at school and when you are home on breaks. I am an ally and safe space to members of the LGTBQIA community, racial/ethnic minorities, and those impacted by poverty. I am aware of how systemic oppression, systems of privilege, and all forms of prejudice impact human functioning. However, I do not pretend to be an expert in these areas, and I am not personally a member of the above-mentioned communities. I welcome any questions about me or my practice. Please feel free to reach out at carahgarsopsyd@gmail.com or 603-577-5551 x3.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

The students who tend to find their way to me have usually already tried something - a therapist, a medication, maybe both, and it helped a little, or not at all, or worked for a while and then stopped. They're not starting from scratch. They're starting from tired. I work well with students who look fine on the outside but are running on empty internally. Students who've been told they have anxiety when what they actually have is undiagnosed ADHD that's been burning through their reserves for years. Students with depression that hasn't responded to standard antidepressants and who need someone willing to look further. Students with OCD who've spent years being misunderstood or only partially treated. I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner, which means I do evaluations and medication management — I'm not a therapist. What makes my approach different is that I look at the full picture before making any recommendations: your history, what you've already tried, your sleep, your biology, whether there might be a different explanation for what you're experiencing than the one you've been given. I see students via telehealth in Arizona, Massachusetts, and Washington, and in person at my Mesa, AZ office. I'm also licensed in Colorado, New Mexico, Rhode Island, and Vermont if you're in one of those states. Most major insurance accepted, including many student health plans. New patients usually seen within a few days. Booking: https://mindgardenmhs.intakeq.com/booking

I'm a therapist who is here for you, exactly how you are and where you are. Connecting with someone you can build trust with is the first step to building our therapeutic alliance. We all experience stress and challenges in life. These events, whether big or small, stay with us, often showing up in our thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and bodies. Carrying our burdens takes a toll. Recognizing these impacts in ourselves can be complex because our brains are doing the hard work of protecting us. I help adults manage daily stress, life transitions, self-doubt, career stress, relationships, and identity challenges. You're welcome to connect over a free 15-minute consultation before deciding to book. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in non-profit, hospital, school, and community behavioral health settings. I come to this work rooted in a deep commitment to social justice. I use a personalized, integrated approach to match you and your needs best. People typically leave the first session feeling heard, validated, and proud of themselves for investing in themself. I strive to create a safe and welcoming space for healing and growth. My approach is collaborative, following your pace. It's focused on helping you to give yourself the grace to build practical tools towards change.
