Madeleine Alford
My approach to psychotherapy is primarily relational and psychodynamic, guided by the concept that healing and change happen in relationship. I aim to create a containing environment where we can be compassionately curious about how your past experiences inform your present. My work incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Liberation Health Model, and mindfulness-based interventions to help meet clients’ unique and wide-ranging needs. I provide a supportive, affirming space for clients’ diverse intersecting identities and experiences (e.g., race, immigration status, gender, sexuality). I provide psychotherapy to adults of all ages and have experience helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, identity exploration, life transitions, grief and loss, shame, trauma, and relational stressors. I also have expertise supporting clients through the challenges of college, graduate school, postgraduate life, and emerging adulthood. Before arriving at CAS, I completed a postgraduate fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy at Cambridge Health Alliance. I also worked in university, medical, and community-based mental health services in academic counseling, peer education, and clinical research.

I have 35 years of experience in doing therapy, including having done a fellowship in College Health. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and am affiliated at Brigham & Women's Hospital. I enjoy working with people particularly in the areas of anxiety and depression, love and relationship concerns, family issues, college life adjustment, career matters, and dealing with medical illness. My office is in Cambridge. I am trained in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis for young people, adults, and kids. I can also prescribe medication, although I don’t do that unless it is in the context of an ongoing regular therapy. I’d be happy to talk with you to see if we’re a good fit for working together! I respond to everyone who makes an inquiry. College and grad school can be incredibly stressful in the best of circumstances, and there is always something... extra. :) I see lots of students and have helped them find peace with social or academic pressure, present or past family problems and new or re-surfacing mental health issues. I am low-key and easy to talk to, with a dry sense of humor. I will quickly understand and help with the issue you want to address, not tell you what I think you should change. I want you to be able to talk about what really matters, feel understood and seen, and become the person you want to be. Over my 25 years in the field I have worked with a wide diversity of people. Not much surprises me, and I’m very nonjudgmental. I have worked to understand racism and oppression, and poverty, and violence, and am also aware I still have a lot to learn. My clinical social work education was in traditional psychodynamic therapy with a strong social justice awareness. I have worked in multicultural and multilingual settings most of my career. I have certificates in the treatment of trauma and also in psychoanalytic studies. I am now training in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and like how non-judgmental it is. My approach is eclectic, and has evolved over the years to be flexible and practical, tuning in to what will be helpful and effective for you. I like to work with young adults, parents, and students, and here are some areas in which I’ve helped people: -Childhood experiences that bother people or create difficulties -Anxiety -Young adulthood/ leaving home adjustment -Immigrant/ first generation acculturation, and adjustment to college -Substance use questions or problems, including historical family issues -Relationships and sexuality, including non-traditional situations -Grief, even about secrets -LGBTQIA+ concerns and family issues -Workplace challenges -Parenting, adjustment to becoming a parent -Depression Our first couple meetings would focus on whether what I have to offer is a good fit for you. I can work in a solution-focused way for just a few meetings, or longer-term. I wish you the best!

My therapeutic approach is relational and psychodynamic in nature, grounded in the belief that healing occurs through meaningful, authentic connection. I aim to create a warm, compassionate, and collaborative space where you can feel understood and supported. Together, we can explore how past experiences, relationships, culture, identity, and unconscious patterns shape how you show up in the world. My work is attachment-informed, trauma-informed, and attentive to each client’s unique lived experience. I also strive to incorporate a strengths-based approach to help you live your most fulfilling life. I provide individual and couples therapy to adults navigating depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, relational trauma, identity exploration, life transitions, and college adjustment. I welcome working with clients across a wide range of identities and backgrounds and have a particular interest in supporting LGBTQ+ and queer individuals. I am a queer-identified clinician with experience in outpatient, college counseling, hospitals, and substance use treatment center settings. I have a significant background in research on attachment, unconscious relational patterns, and the use of psychological assessment to clarify diagnostic concerns, guide treatment and increase insight/self-knowledge.

Jake Weinberg
I’m a therapist in Brookline. I meet with clients in person and online. I enjoy working with adults of all ages and particularly young adults and people early in their careers who are searching for more meaning, fulfillment and balance in life. Regardless of the main issue that brings individuals into therapy, many of my clients struggle with some type of self-defeating narrative, or what I call, an unworkable story about themselves or about some aspect of their lives. I enjoy helping people uncover these unworkable patterns and develop more effective ways of viewing themselves and their lives. Working with me involves exploring what gets in the way of more openness, awareness and engagement with life, and then practicing increasing these ways of being through exercises (such as mindfulness approaches), use of metaphor to shift perspective and other behavioral moves. It’s important to me that I meet every client where he or she is at and work collaboratively toward creating the life you want for yourself. I look forward to connecting with you!
Psychology & Diagnostics, PLLC
Hello College Students! My name is Andrew Taytslin, Psy.D., and I am a clinical psychologist with over ten years of experience conducting neuropsychological and psychological evaluations with individuals across the lifespan. One of my specialties is helping college students identify aspects of their cognitive and psychological functioning that can impact day-to-day life, such as school and academics, work, social/interpersonal functioning, and mental health. The evaluations I conduct are comprehensive, involving various cognitive and psychological tests, and yield a diagnostic report that reviews test results, a summary of findings (including diagnoses if indicated), and treatment recommendations. For college students who receive a diagnosis and require assistance in the school setting, reports also include recommendations that can be integrated into accommodation plans in coordination with your school’s services department(s).

You’re feeling overwhelmed around life’s transitions. You may be just starting college and adjusting to all of the changes that come with this, managing roommate or family difficulties, or dealing with the stress of figuring out your next step after graduation. The responsibilities that these phases come with feel like too much. You feel disconnected from those around you and don’t feel like you have the support you need. Your relationships with friends, family, or your partner feel confusing and unsatisfying. You may be feeling stressed, sad, or scared. Life just feels complicated. Hi, I’m Kelly Miller, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I work with individuals and families to help them feel more connected, purposeful and grounded. I will meet you where you are at and take the time to build a trusting relationship so that you feel comfortable. Together, we will connect the dots around your experiences and relationships to better understand yourself. We will work as a team to develop the skills to make life feel more manageable. I am not here to tell you what to do or how to live your life. I’m here to help you figure out how to live your life with intention.

Therapy serves as an opportunity to be curious – to explore the patterns and narratives we carry, repeat, and, at times, feel bound by. Through gentle curiosity, we create space for healing and give ourselves the opportunity to blossom into more authentic versions of ourselves. My therapeutic approach is grounded in psychodynamic and attachment theories. With compassion and warmth, I listen closely to the unique story of your life, honoring the experiences that have shaped how you relate to yourself and others. Together, we will untangle these experiences and cultivate hope that life can improve in ways that feel deeply meaningful. I offer individual psychotherapy to adults and older adults with a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, bereavement, trauma, relational difficulties, and identity exploration. Importantly, I strive to remain mindful of the nuanced ways our identities shape our experiences and influence how we move through the world. I have specialized training in geropsychology and am passionate about helping adults navigate the complexities of aging, later-in-life transitions, caregiving, existential concerns, and ageism. My experience also includes working in college counseling centers, memory disorder clinics, community mental health, and with veterans.
It Just Hurts, LLC
We go through life trying to figure out who we are and whether we can be accepted by family, co-workers, and friends. You learned strategies to show or hide certain parts of yourself to survive after experiencing hurt or rejection, pretending to be "okay" when others ask you how you are feeling to not burden them, but numb on the inside with anxiety or loneliness. Despite the desire to break out of the shell and be happy, life continues to be hard, especially when you look to others and seeing them being happy. And that is why you come to therapy: Because you want life to be meaningful and fulfilling! Therapy will not be simply talking, but a space where we will explore and mend parts of yourself that you love and parts that you avoid. The process may be challenging as I help you rediscover the things you have "swept under the rug" through questions and emotions, but also rewarding as you hopefully come to see yourself in a new light. I will provide a space for you to be you, whoever that may be so that you can look in the mirror and see yourself as deserving of love and happiness. Gamer? Great! Kinks? Awesome! Anime? That's my jam, too! If you are ready to take that courageous step again, please contact me for a 15-minute consultation on what you want in therapy and next steps.

We all encounter difficult stressors, setbacks and experiences that sometimes cause us pain. We may be challenged by difficult transitions, our relationships, previous trauma, depression or anxiety. We can make the choice to work through these events and grow even when things are hard and confusing. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe place for you to explore your struggles, and give you objective feedback and guidance to help you improve your life. Whether you'd like to improve your mood, strengthen relationships or need support coping with a difficult circumstance I can help. I work with young adults who have difficulty managing their emotions and who struggle with depression, anxiety, impulsive behavior, thoughts of suicide and self-harm, interpersonal problems, or problems functioning at work or school. I provide in-person and virtual evidence-based treatments including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help my clients change ineffective behavioral patterns, develop more helpful ways of thinking, and accept difficult realities in order to build the lives they want. I see therapy as a collaboration between client and therapist to work towards their goals in treatment and in life. Through my validating and nonjudgmental style, I am committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based treatment to help you reach your most desired goals and build a life worth living.
Gayatri Khosla
Hi! I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with 8 years of experience working in various clinical settings with children, adolescents, young adults and adults. I am invested in the power of connection and community, especially for those who have been historically marginalized. Many have been pushed away from connection and community by systems that weren’t built for them. My hope is to empower those whose voices and identities have been stifled, to reclaim space through community, resistance, and activism. My lived experiences as a queer, South Asian, cisgender woman deeply inform my approach to therapy. I believe in holding space for the multiple, intersecting identities and experiences each person carries and honoring the wisdom you already bring into the room. Through a liberation-focused, relational, and trauma-informed approach, I support individuals who are looking to process traumatic experiences, explore gender and sexuality, or navigate their cultural identity and intergenerational trauma. Therapy should be a space where you don’t have to justify who you are and where all aspects of your identity are welcome. This work is hard, and it can be exhausting to be vulnerable. I’m here to walk alongside you and support your process of unlearning, stretching beyond comfort zones, and cultivating new ways of being. I am here to offer curiosity, care, and a space to hold multiple truths. Growth isn’t linear—it’s a daily practice of reflection, connection, and self-compassion. We all deserve spaces that nurture us in this process, and I am honored to co-create that space with you. My integrative approach draws from trauma-informed and relational-cultural modalities, rooted in the understanding that we are shaped by our experiences, culture, ancestors, and the larger social and political systems we inhabit. If you’re looking for a supportive space to explore your identity and experiences, I invite you to reach out. Call or email to schedule a consultation—I look forward to meeting you. *Note: I am currently seeking individuals interested in participating in EMDR sessions as I work towards the completion of EMDR Basic Training. If interested please let me know!

Bret Schermerhorn
Bret is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge, MA. Bret brings a history of working in diverse clinical settings to bear on the work he does with his clients. His range of experiences include in-patient psychiatric settings, partial hospitalization programs, college counseling centers, and the Massachusetts correctional system. He has worked with those seeking therapy for the first time, as well as folks who have experienced a lifetime of navigating the mental health system. Through each of those settings, one constant has remained in the work he has done, which is the conviction that healing only happens through the establishment of a meaningful and authentic therapeutic relationship. Bret’s eclectic history has enabled him to develop a rich and integrated approach to collaborating with the people he forms connections with in his work. In his private practice, Bret works with adults college-age and older. His abiding belief is that in his work he is not working with a diagnosis or a set of symptoms, but with a person with a unique set of complex challenges that have encouraged them to seek assistance from a caring professional. As such, he feels comfortable working with a broad spectrum of therapeutic concerns. However, given his work in corrections, Bret has developed a unique capacity to connect with those who may be skeptical of the therapeutic process or struggled to find success in other therapies. Additionally, Bret specializes in working with young men who have difficulty forming meaningful connections, finding effective ways to express their emotions, and managing impulsivity and aggression towards themself and others. Bret is currently available for in-person and online sessions
Niara Carrenard
My therapeutic approach is grounded in liberation psychology and is integrative, drawing from person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychodynamic, and trauma-informed modalities. I center culturally responsive, anti-oppressive care that acknowledges the impact of systemic and structural violence. I value authenticity, collaboration, and co-creating a space where clients feel safe to be fully seen and supported, while also gently challenged toward growth and healing. I work with adults navigating mood/anxiety disorders, trauma/PTSD, identity development, life transitions, grief/loss, relational concerns, and complex life stressors. I work with clients across all identities and specialize in working with clients from marginalized backgrounds, especially Black and Caribbean individuals, and queer clients. I am a Haitian American clinician, fluent in Haitian Kreyol, second-generation, and queer.
