I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing issues with LGBTQIA+ identity, athletes, depression, anxiety, trauma/posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), self-esteem issues, relationship concerns, and life transitions. I have extensive experience and specialize in working with athletes and can help explore coping with injury, mental blocks, and general stressors that come with being an athlete. I work from an intersectional, strengths-based, person-centered, and holistic perspective, and I utilize culturally and trauma-informed interventions. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychodynamic work, and mindfulness guide my work with clients. Whether you are facing a difficult temporary life stressor, are looking for new coping strategies, or just need someone to talk to, I am here to meet you where you are. It is my goal to ensure clients feel safe, heard, and at the center of their treatment. I believe it is crucial to consider all aspects of a person’s identity to genuinely connect with each other and achieve the personal growth we all seek. My hope is to work together to build upon your strengths to help you progress in a positive and healthy manner and achieve your therapeutic goals.

I support adolescents, college students, and young adults, struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating, including concerns that often co-occur such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and self-harm. I aim to provide a collaborative and compassionate space where clients feel supported as they face challenges and better understand themselves. I believe clients come to therapy with an inner wisdom, and my role is to help them access that insight so they can live more authentically. I have extensive experience working with eating disorders and meet clients where they are to support recovery at their own pace. I offer a nonjudgmental, collaborative space to explore how eating disorders, self-harm, and other coping behaviors may have helped you get through difficult times. We move at a pace that aligns with your goals while gently challenging and building understanding and supporting small, values-based steps towards change. Reaching out for therapy takes a great deal of courage. My goal is to explore what change might look like for you, at your pace. I place strong value on the therapeutic relationship and invite you to schedule a consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

We all have a unique story to tell. Our stories need witnessing, understanding, and even transformation. I believe that therapy provides such a transformative space. It is only in telling our stories, slowing down and recognizing our automatic thoughts and responses that we can reveal our unique inner resources and the truth that we already have everything we need to embrace lives of connection, health, and purpose. It is a creative and collaborative endeavor, navigating internal and external struggles, organizing thoughts and feelings, identifying patterns, and being curious about our own (and each other’s ’) stories. In the past twenty years I have worked with children, teenagers, and adults coping with with anxiety, depression, domestic violence, grief and trauma. Working with adolescent and young adult females struggling with mental health issues, especially those related to self esteem, identity, and the complicated transition to adulthood is a particular passion. I use a blend of clinical modalities including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS); Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and other mind/body techniques; Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT); and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT

Fernanda alves
My name is Fernanda Alves and I am originally from Brazil, where I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2006. After graduating, I immigrated to the US to pursue my master's degree in mental health, which I completed in 2012. Since then, I have worked as an outpatient therapist for two nonprofit organizations, where I obtained experience working with children, adolescents, and families. At the beginning of 2020, I opened my practice, where I have been working with children, adolescents and adults. As someone who has attended counselling myself for anxiety and ADHD, I noticed that plain “talk therapy” was not the most effective method for so many of us, so with that in mind, I developed a goal-oriented, evidence-based approach with my clients that allows them to develop tools to accept life’s challenges while moving towards their values and goal. Instead of focusing on WHY you can't accomplish something, I will help you focus on HOW by giving you productive solutions and strategies.
