My name is Michael Whiteside, and I am a compassionate, communal, and comedic Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to helping others regain control of their life and living life to the fullest. Together, we will partner in helping you have a life worth living by understanding how the pain of the past is interrupting the present and jeopardizing the future. During therapy (individual, couples, family, etc.), life coaching, and emotional support animal assessments, I utilize a combination of CBT, psychodynamic interpersonal, self-psychological, strengths-based, and ecological perspectives, I aim to help the client identify their greatest goals when addressing their traumas, fears, and psychological challenges. Together we investigate their past in order to understand how these past challenges are developing in the present and jeopardizing their future. I empower them to reclaim their inner power and live the life they desire, not simply the one they live.

My ideal client is open minded and willing to do what is normally outside of their comfort zone. My ideal client is an individual who is dedicated to improving and committed to living a better life. Someone who is able to accept change and accept aspects that are out of their control. I have much experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, anger, identity, addiction and many mental health issues. I thoroughly enjoy helping people overcome problematic areas and enabling individuals to live a full and meaningful life. I feel strongly about the empowerment of the client and healing the mind, body and spirit. I have extensive training in trauma: Cognitive Process Therapy [CPT], Prolonged Exposure [PE], Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing [EMDR], Suicide Risk Assessments, Sub-Acute, Residential & In-Patient treatment. I have extensive training & experience with Addiction treatment: In-patient, Residential, IOP, Out-patient, Intervention, Program Development, college faculty, college level therapy. I maintain a safe space for individuals to explore interpersonal conflicts that cause emotional pain. Change starts with the individual's understanding of what is not currently working. Understanding trauma & how differently each person defines it is an important aspect for change. I believe everyone already has their own answers. We should all embrace change!

Therapy is a safe place for exploration; a journey towards more fulfilling relationships, a greater sense of emotional, mental and spiritual well-being as well as increased self-esteem. Our work together will provide you with the support, guidance and the tools that you will need to reach your goals.

I am a seasoned clinical psychologist who is passionate about helping others be happier and live a better life . I work with individuals and couples at my practice in downtown Evansville. I have been in private practice for over 5 years after earning my PsyD from Yeshiva University in New York City. I incorporate a variety of techniques depending on my client's individual needs. These include DBT skills, mindfulness based interventions, and trauma informed treatment. I am committed to working with culturally diverse people from every walk of life and strive to create an open and affirmative space for all. I particularly enjoy working with young adults, adults, and youths. We each come to therapy searching for things to change, understanding, and symptoms relief. During our initial session, you can expect me to take time to get to know you, and provide feedback that you can apply to yourself and others in everyday interactions. We will look at your thoughts, feelings, and reactions that arise in therapy in order to work directly in the present moment. Whether you're looking extra support during a challenging situation, or you simply want to change direction in your life, I look forward to us establishing a collaborative relationship, It is important to understand that you will get more results from therapy if you actively participate in the process. The ultimate purpose of therapy is to help you bring what you learn in session back into your life. Therefore, beyond the work you do in therapy sessions, your therapist may suggest some things you can do outside of therapy to support your process - such as reading a pertinent book, journaling on specific topics, noting particular behaviors or taking action on your goals. People seeking psychotherapy are ready to make positive changes in their lives, are open to new perspectives and take responsibility for their lives. Do you take insurance, and how does that work? Hello! One of the hardest things is feeling like we have hurt or disappointed those closest to us. It’s a struggle every day to keep relationships and even friendships going smoothly. We often disappoint ourselves, and life hasn’t always been what we hoped it would be. Maybe things look good on the surface but inside we feel like everyone else has it figured out while we barely keep it together. It doesn’t have to feel like this, and I can help you feel better through therapy. While in therapy with us you will definitely laugh, you might cry, and you will see changes in your life that you’ve wanted for a long time. Good therapy can help us feel less like a failure and find more success in life. Changing the way we think can change the way we feel and dealing with trauma can help it feel less awful. Therapy can help us be a better partner, friend, or parent. Whether you’re reading this for yourself, for your family, or as a couple we can help you make things better. You'll feel safe and connected while you process the past so life becomes easier and more enjoyable.
