Being in college can be challenging and stressful in many ways. You encounter so many new things that you've never had to do or deal with in your life before. The things that are familiar are now so much more intensified. For some, this leaves them feeling depressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. You can feel like a boat being tossed around in high swells during a raging storm. I like helping people make sense of what is going on, learn ways to calm the storm and steer their life, and become more confident to meet challenges they encounter. My approach is that we are a team. I have the training and knowledge to guide this journey, but you are the one who leads the way. If you would like to learn more about my background and types of therapies I use, please visit my website at www.balancedlifecsllc.com or call me at 317-742-9771 for a free 15 minute "meet and greet". I offer in-person and virtual sessions (as long as you are in the state of Indiana where I am licensed). I have my practice hours listed but am flexible if you need to meet outside of them.

The mission of Restore & Recover is to provide confidential and person-specific therapy to those struggling with a variety of issues that modern life brings. Since 1999, I have been working in the social services field. During the past 25 years, mental health and addictions treatment has changed dramatically. This has taught me that there is no "One Size Fits All" treatment style. After receiving my Masters degree from Indiana University in 2006, I was given the opportunity to work in one of Indianapolis' inner city hospitals. I have always accredited this time in my life as being where I truly learned how to be a therapist. After time spent there, I moved into a more specialized role in addictions treatment. As well as a leadership role in Hamilton County with a local community mental health agency and then moved into my private practice career. I am not the most traditional therapist. I am laid back while also direct. My hope is that when you enter my office you feel at-home, having a comfortable chat with a friend while receiving the benefits of a skilled clinician. When providing any treatment, but especially substance abuse treatment, I believe strongly that my role is not to tell you what to do, but to help motivate you to make the changes you know you need. I believe that there are many roads that can get us to the destination we desire. I hope to help guide you there as quickly and painlessly as possible. I provide evidence-based treatment for depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, trauma, adjustment disorders, stress management, addictions (including Suboxone maintenance) as well as court-ordered treatment. I have worked with those in the LGBTQ+- community through out entire career. I also provide substance abuse assessments for both court-ordered clients as well as EAP.
We all need someone to talk to at times, and I have dedicated my career to being that person for others. As a LCSW, I have over 6 years of experience. I enjoy working with teens and young adults to help with problems adjusting to life’s changes, relationship issues, unhealthy boundaries with family, friends and/or others, and poor self-esteem and self-worth. One of my aims is to build a compassionate and relaxed environment for clients to open up and collaborate to realize and accomplish goals. A large part of my practice has been in the treatment of grief and loss, trauma and healing, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. We will work using different techniques such as, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing. I like to build on strengths that patients already possess but may not see. My style is laid back and client centered. I have a strong sense of compassion and commitment to helping others and understand that, for some, beginning counseling may be a difficult decision. I will meet you where you are to get you where you want to be. Let’s work together to improve life and start thriving!

My favorite part of therapy is talking things out with an empathic therapist and then returning to session the following week and sharing how my new knowledge/strategy/skill worked out for me. I am happy to suggest goals, ideas, strategies, skills, or resources depending on your need. Or I am happy to listen to you while you work out your own thoughts & feelings.
A typical client for us is someone who sincerely wants support and assistance in becoming a happier, healthier individual/couple/family. If the desire to make a change is there, we are more than able and willing to assist you in navigating your own path to success. We have been practicing therapy for 15 years and find that it is best to evaluate each clients individual needs before utilizing a specific treatment option when working with them. We offer face to face, online, or over the phone counseling sessions that vary from 45-60 minutes. We strive to cater our counseling services to that of the individual we are working with. Our goal is to help YOU feel comfortable in the therapeutic setting and we encourage you to reach out and contact us to see how we can help you improve upon your current situation and be the support you have been looking for!

Coming to therapy can be nerve wracking, my goal as your counselor is to create a safe and non-judgmental environment to support you in your therapy goals. I have a passion for working with clients of diverse backgrounds such as sexual, gender, and ethnic minorities. I have experience working with various mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and other mental health disorders. I have worked with clients within the LGBTQ+ and minority communities for over five years. As a counselor that identifies with multiple minority identities, I understand the importance of finding a counselor that understands your world experiences and lens. I take an eclectic approach to help support unique client needs. I received my master’s degree in counseling psychology at Ball State University with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling. I utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy to help process emotions. I emphasize open communication, setting healthy boundaries, and confidence building. I am both trauma-informed and culturally informed. I find the most crucial part of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. During sessions, I would describe my style as “chill,” supportive, while professional. Humor and light-heartedness, when appropriate, can be therapeutic and beneficial. If this sounds like a style that meets your needs, please do not hesitate to reach out to learn more information. I look forward to connecting with you!

Everyone deserves a safe place to explore their thoughts and feelings. I believe clients are the experts in themselves and I provide a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings without judgment. One request I may ask of clients when we work together is that labels like “right” or “wrong” are strongly discouraged in sessions. Letting go of those labels in session is an important part of creating that safe space. The most common struggles of the people I work with include Borderline Personality Disorder, PTSD, struggles with assertiveness, gray-area substance use, and anger outbursts. The other mindfulness practices can help with managing anxiety, impulsivity, and intrusive thoughts. As your recovery evolves in stages, your treatment will too. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have been practicing since 2018. My specialties include Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and narrative therapy, as well as other mindfulness practices.
