I work with young adults around challenges such as stress & anxiety, life transitions (including into and out of college), healthy relationships, boundaries, self compassion, and perfectionism. I work with anxiety and or depression triggered by single event trauma or complex trauma over time- trauma being any distressing situation where we feel helpless and powerless- These effects can create enduring shadows that stretch across our lives. Disconnected from ourselves and others, and detached from those we want to attach, we begin to think we are that disconnection itself, and it is too painful to be with ourselves or feel our feelings. We end up living in an unbalanced, reactive state of anxiety-or stuck in a freeze state of depression or shut-down. Wounding causes us to live from a defended and limited place of grief and anxieties, seeking any way to avoid and relieve pain. Therapy is the reparative process of healing in relationship and again living from our true authentic self with adaptability, resilience, and creativity. I am a passionate therapist with a long history of working with adolescents and college students. I am from Atlanta, went to high school in Kennesaw, college in Athens, and graduate school in Seattle. A significant portion of my practice includes college students from various institutions around metro Atlanta, primarily, Emory University, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Georgia Gwinnett College, and Kennesaw State. I am trained in various models of therapy and also enjoy collaborating with clients to identify and pursue their goals. I have been working with individuals, couples and families since 1996. I received my BS degree in Psychology from Spelman College (1992) and my Masters degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State (1996). I am proud to have a culturally diverse clientele that I've worked with for 20 plus years. Allyse Russell is an intensively trained DBT therapist providing individual treatment, family therapy, and skills training. She received her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Georgia Southern University and her Master’s in Social Work from Kennesaw State University. Allyse also holds a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Modern Languages with a specialization in Spanish from Georgia Southern University and is conversationally fluent in Spanish. Allyse works with adolescents and adults struggling with depression, anxiety, life-threatening behaviors, and emotional and behavioral effects of trauma. Allyse also specializes in working with families to manage their own emotions in caring for children and adolescents with challenging emotional and behavioral needs. Allyse enjoys working with clients to develop skills and strategies to create sustainable change and balance acceptance in their lives.
