I view therapy as sacred work in which the therapeutic relationship is one of mutual respect and collaboration. I hold a BA in Anthropology from the University of Washington (1997) and a Master’s degree (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Argosy University (2010) and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado. In 2014 I completed a three year advanced training in Somatic Experiencing (SE), a body-centered approach to treating trauma and other stress disorders. I am inspired by Western psychological models and Eastern contemplative techniques, and my practice is enhanced by many years of experience as a yoga and meditation teacher, and as a seeker of various healing modalities. A life-long path of self-exploration and global adventure has been my classroom and has led me to ashrams, Native American sweat lodges, monasteries, and innumerable seminars, workshops, and retreats. I believe in finding inner growth and meaning in all life experiences, especially adversity. My therapeutic style is integrative and holistic, creatively employing Somatic, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral techniques with the intention of restoring balance to body, mind and spirit and inner harmony with all of your Parts. I bring deep empathy, insight, warmth, and liberal doses of humor to my clients, specializing in support for those challenged by trauma and anxiety. I am a trauma survivor, and I am particularly dedicated to the healing of childhood sexual abuse. My passion lies in helping you reconnect with your light. Whatever is standing in your way, whether it is shame, trauma, anxiety, low self-worth, we will unearth it. Together, we will heal it. Working as a team, we will be alchemists, transforming pain into personal power and self-love. You deserve to love all parts of yourself. You deserve to feel whole.
Hi and welcome to my page. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor providing outpatient therapy to children, adolescents and young adults. I am particularly passionate about working with young adults around issues of anxiety, depression, relationships and grief. My approach is psychodynamic and collaborative, which means that I seek to understand your point of view and history while we examine together areas in which you may be struggling or feel "stuck." My goal is to meet you where you are and work together to improve your level of functioning and provide you with a fresh perspective that will empower you to live the life you want. My style is warm and engaging, utilizing an integrative, humanistic, and emotionally focused approach to support you in understanding patterns, building resilience, and creating healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. If you’re looking to feel more understood, grounded, and connected to the life you desire, please reach out today. I believe in meeting people with compassion and curiosity, which helps me be a steady, supportive partner in your healing. You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin. Working together, you are empowered to start putting the pieces together in a collaborative and welcoming space, with therapy tailored to your unique story, values, and goals. I use emotionally focused and integrative approaches to help you feel safer, more connected, and more confident. After years working in higher education, and having lost people in my community to addiction, I felt called to help people more deeply, especially communities facing barriers, so they can heal and reach their full potential. I’ve seen firsthand the cultural and religious stigma around mental health, and I wanted to help people feel less alone and more willing to seek support. I continue to believe therapy can be preventive, not just a last resort, and am dedicated to being a source of safety and hope for those in need. I enjoy activities that allow me to connect with others, explore new places, and stay active and balanced. That’s why you’ll often find me in the great outdoors going on hikes and hitting the ski trails or cozied up at home baking and practicing yoga. I also love spending time with family and friends and traveling to new states and countries.
I am an experienced therapist who helps adults and adolescents with anxiety, life transitions, and trauma recovery. I offer a personalized approach to each client's unique needs. My name is Sarah Lucas, and I'm a licensed professional counselor in Denver, Colorado. I was born in North Carolina and have Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Studio Art from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, depression, transitions, pre- and post-partum difficulties, and relationship struggles. I utilize multiple therapies including CBT, DBT, and ACT to create a treatment plan that suits each client's unique needs. I'm a practical therapist, so I want to give you strategies to use outside of the therapy session in your daily life- as well as offering a listening and understanding ear. I hope you leave every session with me feeling empowered, supported, and more compassionate towards yourself. I want to help you navigate transitions and design your life with courage and confidence. We'll open up, talk goals, make plans, and work together to help you feel good. Along the way, I'll be here beside you to remind you that you are wonderful, just as you are.
Anxiety, stress, and sadness are a normal part of life. At times these feelings can take over and inhabit multiple area's of life in a profoundly negative way. As a therapist, I offer an empathetic, non-judgmental, supportive, and encouraging space for emerging and young adults to explore area's of life that feel off. I work with my clients to understand the unique experiences brought to counseling. Treating someone as a person, not a diagnosis that needs to be fixed is essential in healing.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with six years of experience, my work is dedicated to helping children, adolescents, and young adults from all backgrounds navigate life's challenges. Whether you're working through trauma, a mental health diagnosis, emotional dysregulation, behavioral challenges, family or social conflict, or a difficult life transition, you don't have to face it alone. My specialties include PTSD and trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, mood disorders, personality disorders, and adjustment disorders. Beyond diagnosis, I also support patients with stress management, self-esteem, social skills, coping skill development, and crisis intervention. Wherever you are in your journey, my goal is to be a compassionate, trustworthy partner who meets you exactly where you are, because you deserve to feel heard, empowered, and confident in your growth. Collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based care is at the heart of everything I do. Each of our sessions is built on authenticity and compassion, and I tailor my approach to your unique situation and needs so that what we work on together feels meaningful and relevant to your life. You can expect a space that is nonjudgmental and genuinely supportive. Using an integrated therapeutic approach, we'll work through life's hardships in a way that honors your experiences and builds on your existing strengths. The goal is for you to feel understood, capable, and empowered to create lasting, meaningful change. My path to this work was shaped by a deeply personal experience during graduate school, where I encountered hardship, judgment, and misunderstanding from professional counselors based on my own identities. Rather than diminish my passion, that experience ignited it, clarifying exactly the kind of therapist I wanted to be: one who shows up with full authenticity and compassion for every person who walks through the door. Working with children, adolescents, and young adults has been a central part of my life for as long as I can remember. These times taught me that even one person, with genuine positivity and empathy, can make a meaningful difference for someone who has never had that kind of relationship before. This belief grounds my work every day. I bring an open-minded perspective to each session because I believe you hold the key to overcoming the challenges you've faced. My role is to walk alongside you as you find it. Outside of sessions, you'll find me coloring, tackling puzzles, playing board games, or heading outdoors for an adventure. Staying active and creative keeps me grounded, and I bring that same energy and curiosity into the care I provide.
We've all heard that life is about balance, but who teaches us how to find that balance? It's hard enough under normal circumstances, but when life throws a curveball that changes your routine, it can feel like you're walking a tightrope. Add other people's needs and expectations to the mix, and finding balance for yourself can seem downright impossible. You don't have to navigate it on your own - I'm here to help! Let's work together to help you become a happier, healthier version of yourself. My therapy sessions are a space for the helpers, healers, carers, and people-pleasers that I work with, to prioritize their OWN needs. At bare minimum, you can count on being seen and acknowledged for who you are, not just for what you can provide or achieve. This on its own can be healing, and will serve as the foundation for our work together. I take a very collaborative approach to treatment, and recognize you as the expert of your own goals, needs, and experiences. Together we'll identify what parts of your life feel out of whack, how you'd like things to look different, and what manageable and realistic steps you can take to get there. We'll gently challenge any thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and beliefs that might be keeping you stuck. I also like to teach tools and skills that you can use outside of our sessions to help combat anxiety, improve communication, make difficult decisions, avoid impulsive responses, and cope with life's challenges. I am a strong believer that therapy should be a partnership. Like any strong relationship, the therapeutic relationship needs to be built on trust. I strive for transparency at every step. If I'm teaching a particular skill, I'll tell you about the science behind the skill and why it works. When it comes to mental health diagnoses, we're gonna talk through it together. It shouldn't feel like the work is happening mysteriously behind a curtain - I'm always happy to explain why I'm asking certain questions and where my head is at during our sessions. In the vast majority of situations, I believe that people are just trying to survive in the best way they know how. Your responses may not be serving you well at this juncture in life, but they got you this far, and I think it's important to honor that. If you are seeking therapy, you've already overcome adversity and have some amazing resilience and survival skills. My job is to help you build upon those strengths that you already have. I genuinely look forward to working with you!
With over 25 years of experience in substance abuse and mental health, I have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by many underserved populations. While I have extensive experience working with diverse populations, my approach is centered on helping each client—regardless of background—discover their strengths, build resilience, and create a path toward healing and personal growth. My focus is helping individuals in these communities address issues such as anger management, substance abuse, and overall emotional well-being. My culturally sensitive therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to empower clients to overcome obstacles and build a fulfilling life. I believe in the strength, resilience, and wisdom each person brings to therapy, and I am committed to providing a space where healing and growth can occur.
I often work with students who are dealing with anxiety, school stress, family conflict, or feeling overwhelmed by expectations. You might feel like you’re trying to keep everything together while struggling on the inside. In therapy, we’ll slow things down, make sense of what you’re experiencing, and develop skills that help you feel more grounded in yourself and supported in life. I also encourage parent coaching sessions to help caregivers learn tools to better support their child’s emotional growth.

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you're juggling school, relationships, family expectations, or just trying to figure out who you are and what matters to you. I work best with students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like they’re carrying more than they can manage alone. You might be navigating anxiety, burnout, grief, family conflict, or a major life transition—and I’m here to help you feel grounded again. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I’ll never judge you for what you’re feeling. Instead, I’ll support you in understanding yourself better and building tools to manage what’s hard. Before opening my private practice, I worked for years in a medical setting supporting young people and families through complex challenges. Today, I specialize in working with individuals living with chronic illnesses, as well as the caregivers and siblings who support them—but many of my clients also come to me with everyday stress, identity questions, or big decisions about the future. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, help you make sense of your experiences, and walk alongside you as you grow, I’d love to connect.
