When people ask me what my ideal client I actually wonder what's people's ideal therapists? I think this is important when thinking about an ideal client and therapists because I see it as a collaborative work. I'm not here to force you what I think is best for you, therapy is something both the client and therapist figure out together to meet the clients' needs and goals. I find it important to keep in mind intersectionalities and how society and culture play an important role. I enjoy working with different diversities such as LGBTQ+, culture, and etc. I also work with trauma using informal exposure, art therapy, teen therapy, and couples therapy. I also love doing work involving aspects of DBT therapy such as mindfulness. I know the therapy process is hard, but I want to try to make anyone feel they can be themselves (sometimes I use humor when appropriate). Searching for the right therapist is hard so whether it's me or not I encourage you to keep looking and find who's right for you out there. Feel free to reach out for a phone consult or email!

I specialize in working with female students who are struggling with anxiety or stress. Maybe you are noticing burnout and feeling a lack of interest in classes, feeling stressed with upcoming exams, feeling anxious making new friends, or feeling completely overwhelmed by the sorority system at school. College or graduate school is meant to be an experience of self-discovery, but you may find yourself isolating, worrying, anxious, or overwhelmed. The pressure to excel academically, anxiety of moving away from home, the demands of coursework and deadlines, and the challenges of making new friends can all contribute to anxiety and stress and just feeling down. If you are looking to feel in control of your life again and get back to enjoying life, you have come to the right place! As someone who experiences anxiety myself and struggled to get into the groove of college, I I get it! I would love to support you in coping with any anxiety or stress you are currently experiencing to help you feel relief and get back that enjoyment of life! Please reach out today.

I see mental health as part of one's overall wellness. My approach focuses on having fewer negative emotions, and also on more positive emotions. I offer tools that research has demonstrated are very effective for reducing suffering. I also assist you in seeing meaningful, practical change by compassion, warmth, and empathy with a bit of humor. However, there is no cookie-cutter approach. We work together, openly, to customize your treatment directly to your needs and strengths. I frequently work with POCs, high-achieving students and professionals, folks in major transitions, and those coping with imposter syndrome, perfectionism, procrastination, and worrying. I have a particular skill in working with women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals and people new to therapy and welcome your questions!

Clinical Social Work/Therapist
Denver, CO

My name is Blanca Martinez Walter and I am a licensed Latina holistic and spiritual therapist, living in Denver, Colorado. I am licensed in both the state of California and Colorado. The fancy title I have earned is Licensed Clinical Social Worker, but I prefer the other title (spiritual therapist). I blend my experience working with Latinx in psychotherapy with my deep interest in spirituality and the mind, body, and soul connection. My therapeutic approach is holistic, incorporating intuition, signs that universe sends you, body awareness, inner child work, and a comprehensive understanding of your past and present experiences to understand how you came to be. In my practice I work with first generation latinas/latinos seeking change, wanting to get more attuned to their intuition, open to looking at past patterns and being challenged, all the while doing so with a therapist that has a cultural background similar to theirs. Common issues addressed in my practice include the effects of childhood parentification, perfectionism, self-care issues, life transitions, grief, relationship challenges, and other issues unique to the first-generation experience. As your therapist, I will be your cheerleader and I will also be that person that challenges you and disagrees with you, because without discomfort there is no growth. I balance both humor, gentleness and disagreement in my therapeutic sessions. And yes, I speak Spanglish. I offer a free 15 min consultation to determine what your needs are going to be, what you are looking for in treatment and with that determine whether we would be a good match. I can offer a special rate for college students of $90 for 45 minutes. *If you are dealing with suicidal thoughts, it may be determined that telehealth is not the option.

I help clients deal with an array of life problems such as; depression, anxiety, IPV, trauma, assault, chemical dependency, co occurring conditions, maternal and postpartum, infertility, grief, etc. Previous clients have expressed therapy sessions with me have led to; better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and reduction of feelings of stress. My approach to therapy is meeting the client where they are and allowing clients to explore which therapy approach works best for them. Therapy can create some discomfort for both patients and people close to them. This is because therapy can involve change. I used a plethora of treatment modalities; CBT, DBT, gestalt, solution focused, EMDR, and many more. I feel clients are the experts of their lives and my job is not to judge or tell a client what to do. But to be a helpmate to assist a client to get where they're trying to go.

As a clinical psychologist, I understand that seeking therapy can be a challenging and vulnerable experience. This makes it all the more important to me to create a warm and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable and understood. My approach is compassionate and understanding, and I am here to provide guidance and support as you navigate the challenges you're facing and work towards positive changes in your life and relationships. I received my Master's and Doctorate degrees in Clinical Psychology from California Lutheran University. I completed a doctoral internship in clinical health psychology at Veterans Affairs Sepulveda Ambulatory Care Center, an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited training site. I furthered my specialization in trauma-informed care with a postdoctoral residency at Veterans Affairs Los Angeles Ambulatory Care Center. I have training and experience implementing evidence-based practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Integrative Behavioral Couples Therapy (IBCT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). I am a certified provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for trauma. I have worked with couples, individuals, and groups in community, VA, and private practice settings. My research has focused on helping survivors of human trafficking and complex trauma. I truly believe in the power of therapy, and I am here to support and encourage you every step of the way. My Background Hello and welcome! I have been helping people heal and live more fulfilling lives for over 20 years. I am just as passionate today as I was when I first began. My formal training began while studying psychology at UC Berkeley where I became interested in learning about the mind, human behavior and emotions, personality and developmental psychology. For several years after undergrad, I helped people with developmental disabilities by providing them with vocational, recreational and social opportunities so they can live their best lives. I later received my Masters in Clinical Social Work from Boston College where I dove deep into understanding human behavior in the context of environment. My post-masters work involved coaching parents on helping their children with autism and behavioral issues express their needs in safe and effective ways; managing a substance use helpline and providing crisis intervention and family therapy for people who were hospitalized due to severe and acute mental health issues. For three years, I provided group, family and individual therapies to clients at an Intensive Out Patient program in a bay-area hospital, teaching mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills. My Journey Growing up I was never taught how to appropriately identify and express my feelings or process pain. This caused me to direct any pain I experienced either inward towards myself or outward towards others. This resulted in hurtful and angry outbursts towards those I love or turning inward and experiencing numbness, anxiety, depression and shame. In my own therapy, I came to discover the power of changing the relationship I had with my emotions. I explored past wounds and destructive patterns and as a result, have experienced deep healing and changes that have significantly improved the quality of my life and have allowed me to experience more intimacy, happiness, deeper fulfillment and peace in all areas of my life. The work I have done in therapy has also had a powerful impact on my ability to serve my clients. My Approach I am compassionate, caring, and non judgmental. My clients have told me they appreciate my authenticity, kindness and creativity. I create a safe environment allowing people to feel comfortable discussing even the most sensitive issues. Clients also feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings on my approach to their therapy. This has lead to an open dialogue encouraging meaningful conversations, improving both the therapeutic relationship and outcomes for my clients. About Me A California native, I love spending time in nature, hiking, singing and recording songs, playing guitar, yoga, meditation, reading, traveling and spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy writing and reading about spirituality, psychology and personal development. I currently live in the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Diego, CA

Hello, my name is Heather Pederson. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Diego and am so glad you are here. Seeking help can potentially feel daunting, exposing, and overwhelming. It can also be our first steps toward repair, healing, and growth. I have found that people are so very strong, courageous, and hard-working, and still need some help when things get hard. I believe therapy can be a unique chance to discover parts of ourselves we forgot about, allow healing for the tender parts, and find new ways of interacting with ourselves and our loved ones that allow for deeper understanding and connection. I work with individuals and couples who often struggle with: a feeling of something between angry, sad, and fear that doesn’t have a name, as well as feelings of overwhelm, worry and stress that gets between them and their preferred lives. I seek to create opportunities in therapy to connect more deeply with the truest parts of yourself so that you can then connect more deeply with your purpose, values, and trusted others. I am trained in Emotionally-Focused Therapy (Externship with Sue Johnson, Core Skills to become Certified in progress), a Certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, Trauma Informed Care, and a graduate of Bethel Seminary San Diego with an M.A. in Marital and Family Therapy. Please contact me with any questions you might have regarding therapy. I work with college students (extensive experience working on college campuses), couples, individuals, premarital/pre-engagement, relational distress, trauma, and anxiety.

Calling all people pleasers, perfectionists + overanalyzers. Does this sound familiar? You keep saying yes when you should say no. You are always pushing yourself to your limits + putting everyone else first. You hold yourself to impossible standards. You are anxious + tired. It doesn't have to be like this. We can work together to regain your sense of peace, find clarity and insight, heal from past hurts and move towards a life of deeper connection and authenticity with yourself + others. Imagine if your needs and wants mattered and actually got put first for once. Imagine what it would be like to say no and not feel guilty. Imagine feeling an internal sense of calm. All of this is possible. If you are looking to heal, grow + experience lasting change, I can help. Therapy with me is relatable, collaborative + non-judgmental. There will always be space here for you to be fully seen + heard. If you are ready to dive in and start making some changes, let's do it! A beautiful life awaits you. I’m 100% telehealth and available to work with anyone in the state of CA. My specialities are people pleasing, perfectionism, anxiety, trauma, depression, stress, and self-esteem. If it sounds like we'd be a good fit, please visit my website (www.HoldingPlaceTherapy.com) to schedule your free, no obligation 15 minute phone consult today!
