Looking for a therapist can feel frightening and overwhelming. This is especially true if you are one of those individuals who have it all put together, yet often worry about what others may think. Do you struggle with feelings of loneliness, fear, guilt, shame, anger, difficulties trusting others and difficulties feeling joy. Therapy is a transformational process and I certainly understand being anxious or even fearful of change. Through my personal experience in psychotherapy and work with clients, I have witnessed the healing and change the therapeutic process offers. My approach is warm and welcoming. I strive to establish a peaceful and safe environment. I truly believe beauty and healing are often a result of allowing light shine to our darkest places. With the right space and support, you can achieve the things you want to achieve as well as heal from past hurts. I hold the same belief when completing psychological evaluations for Immigration. I also offer the opportunity of telehealth- video conference sessions in order to expand my ability to offer safe therapeutic support. Looking forward to hearing from you and being part of your journey

We grieve any time life changes directions, and even positive changes can bring about difficult feelings. You may be struggling with the death of a loved one, demands of school or work, adjusting to a new relationship, or considering the next chapters of your life. With experience in oncology, young adult parental loss, anticipatory loss, and sudden death, I provide you with support, insights, treatment, education, and guidance during times of transition and beyond. While some clients make the choice to pursue working with a therapist because of a specific life event or situation, others make the choice because of a desire for self-growth and a general improvement in well-being. Regardless of your reason, I welcome you to contact me. It's not easy to seek support. I'm easy-going, approachable, and genuinely want you to feel better. Send me a message and we can figure out how to make that happen.
The students I work best with are often going through big changes in life that feel overwhelmingālike starting at a new school, dealing with pressure at home, or feeling unsure about friendships. Many of them feel anxious, stressed, or sad, and sometimes find it hard to talk about whatās really going on. They usually want a safe space where they can share their thoughts without being judged, and where someone really listens and helps them make sense of their feelings. Some of my students want support with building confidence, finding healthy ways to cope, or learning how to manage tough emotions when they show up at school, at home, or with friends. If youāve ever felt like no one really understands what youāre going through, or like you have to hide how you feel, then youāre the kind of student I can support. Together, weāll work on helping you feel more comfortable in your own skin and finding strategies that actually fit your life.
Well, hey thereāI'm Dr. Bennett, but around here folks just call me Nick (or āmental health wingmanā because you donāt have to do it alone). I'm a Licensed Psychologist, Kentucky born with a curious mind and raised on good manners, sweet tea, and the belief that everyoneās story matters. Iām also a pretty decent listener, and the guy whoāll gently call you out when youāre being your own worst enemy (with Southern Grace, of course). I take a no-nonsense, client-centered approach to therapyāmeaning we do what works, not just whatās in the textbook. I pull from all kinds of fancy-sounding things like CBT, EMDR (that eye-wiggle therapy that actually helps), mindfulness, and clinical hypnotherapy, but donāt let the big words fool youāIām not here to confuse you, Iām here to help you get unstuck. Think of it like a mental tune-up with someone who wonāt judge you for crying and cussing in the same sentence. Iāve worked with all sorts of folksāteens who'd rather be anywhere else, adults juggling more than they can carry, and elders who've seen more than most of us can imagine. Iāve helped folks through depression, anxiety, trauma, phobias (yes, including critters and public speaking), and lifeās lovely little curveballs. Iāve worked with families involved with Child Protective Services, and Iāve spent time supporting folks in nursing homes, where wisdom and sass often come in equal parts. Iāve also had the honor of working with survivors of sexual assault and folks in the LGBTQ+ communityāspaces where safety, respect, and a little humor go a long way. Before all this therapy business, I served in the U.S. Army and later, Army National Guard, with two combat deployments. So, if youāre a veteran or military family, know that I speak the languageāboots, bureaucracy, and all. After all, camouflage isnāt just a pattern; itās a lifestyle. Therapy doesnāt have to be stiff and clinical. Sometimes itās about laughing at the mess while working through it. When it comes to couples therapy, I use tools like the Gottman Method and emotionally focused therapyābasically helping yāall stop talking past each other and start actually hearing one another. I have also run group therapy programs that range from LGBTQ+ support and sexual assault recovery to anger management and domestic violence work. And nope, itās not just people sitting in a circle saying, āIām angry.ā We get real, and sometimes even have a few laughs. Outside of therapy sessions, I also do psychological evaluationsāfor everything from disability claims to gender affirmation surgery prep to lawsuit support. Itās serious work, and I take it seriouslyābut I promise not to make it feel like you're on trial. I earned my PsyD from California Southern University, where my dissertation explored the link between toxic masculinity and sexual violence. (Spoiler alert: masculinityās not the problemātoxic masculinity is.) My postdoc training happened in the redwoods of California and the hustle of D.C., so Iāve been around the blockāand the mountainsāand the monuments. If you're looking for a therapist whoāll shoot you straight, bring a little humor to the hard stuff, and treat you like a personānot a projectāwell then, youāve found your guy. Weāll laugh, weāll dig deep, and we might even change your life a little. Letās get to work, yāall.

We'll create sustainable goals that align with your values and find strategies to overcome obstacles. My work draws from many years of helping adults, families, children, and couples in clinics, schools, and community settings. Therapy can be hard, so I want to make it comfortable for you. I'm a gamer and use video games in sessions to help you feel more at ease, build skills, and process your difficulties. Games, art, play, and many creative activities have been used in therapy to help people process their difficulties, express themselves, and make therapy personal.
